Defected!

I need some info, I got defected last weekend, rolling diameter of my tyres is apparently 50mm too large.
Took it into the bridgestone tyre centre near my work and they said that they are legal.
i'm running 235/75/15's and Its registered in queensland. Is there anyone here who can tell me what they come stock as? or know if they're definitely illegal or not?
I've had a search around the forums and couldn't really find anything relating to this so I created my own.
Cheers in advance

205/70r15 is stock... thats 26"... your maximum increase is 10%, which leaves you running a 28.6" tyre... which yours pretty much is as it should measure about 28.87"
I'd dispute the defect at the appropriate place... perhaps call up the inspectors and ask them, without telling them you have a ticket, just say "i want to increase my tyre size, whats the rules, can i run a 235/75r15?

As i've been told, QLD regulations only allow 15mm extra to the rolling diameter.
As the cop said, its pretty well 65mm more then the stock diameter.

that sucks. i got a rwc with 235/75's in victoria, no questions asked. They just said "make sure the tyres dont stick past the guards" so i added some flares.. this helps to not attract attention from the cops too

What were you doing for them to even look at the tyres or did you get picked by the Transport Inspectors. Pays to have a set of stockers in the shed for just this reason.

X2, 235/75's dont stand out at all compared to the other rigs and there setups. I also run this size in QLD, little bit worrying if there targeting the very mildly moded rigs aswell.

Well it is bright orange with a 6 point roll cage and stickers on the side but hey.
I was just driving along, round a corner, bam RBT lineup of about 4 cops get RBT'd, all sweet about to drive off and bam, torches the tires and walks right around etc.
Got the numbers off the tyres and that was that went back to his car came back and said they were 50mm too big or something.
Shit hey, so their definitely illegal in qld?

Unfortunately yea. 15mm is crap its like this |<------>| much bigger than standard. Its a bloody joke!
Which make me start to think, its rolling diameter so a defect could possibly be the difference between a tire at 15psi or 40psi
.
Bit of a bummer dude.

i run 31x11.5 claws and havent been done yet but i know i can be.
sucks how in one state its safe and not in another! what, do suzuki send the dodgier manufactured sierras to qld and the A grade ones to other states? why do we have different safety rules for the same car? im preaching to the choir here i know but it annoys me still.

No no no, we just get the dodgier bureaucrats! Must be all the ones from down south who couldn't have their way with Nazi modification laws so sort refuge in over-conservative QLD.

Fancied moving to Qld one stage for the better surf
.
But with the 'mod' regulations in that state I think not.
As lilzook said…

I've also got 235/75's (with no extended flares) on my WT Zook.
Every Perth cop who's ever pulled me over for a RBT, license check etc, have had a quick glance over the car then sent me on my way.
Personally I think the 235/75's are a 'mild mod', they actually seem more proportionate to the Sierra than the stock 205's.
Possibly your rig's bright orange paint and 6 point roll cage brought their attention to check the tyre sizes.

Totally agree…
Perhaps someone from Outer's should run in Qld's next state election and push the idea to 'relax' the ridiculous vehicle modification laws.

Try driving a nissan silvia
The cops really like looking at those cars
I think it just depends if you find a cop that just wants to write a ticket (which is most traffic cops) I know a guy with a corvette in good condition. The cop went all over it and wrote him a ticket for rust in the radiator support panel. (something that is underneath the car and hard to see) Not a structural element, but still, he wanted to write the ticket. It happens. In Qld it costs you $75 and 1 point. NSW is a $75 fine only, which makkes QLD worse off again

Yes illegal but then you have checked with the QLD transport people to make sure rather than relying on faceless nameless people on the internet. I 'm surprised the rollcage wasn't defected as well

I was going to say too, your lucky you only have to swap over a set of wheels (15 minutes with a trolley jack & wheel brace), and don't have to pull out the entire 6pt cage...

Just goes to show the cop didn't know what he was looking at.

Yeh I did infact call the QLD transport department, they were utterly useless, i just had some drone of a phone operator tell me he didnt know what the stock suzuki tyre sizes were and hung up.
This all happened on Torrens Road in morayfield last sunday night for whoever asked where.
Ahh well, i guess i'll just bit the bullet, pay the fine and take the point.

Sadly this is usually the case, they have all these little rules they can defect you for, but you ring up to enquire and get some hard answers and they act like a bunch of politicians trying to dodge your question. So you ask for the contact details of some local approved engineers, and they give you out of date details that lead you to a bookshop or hairdresser. Then you call them back to tell them that the phone numbers are out of date, and they fob you off!
Some of our vehicles might be illegal in the eyes of QT, but their services are just utterly pathetic. I'm not having a go at the vehicle engineers, as when you finally locate one they are usually very helpful, and informative; willing to go out of their way to assist you in every way.

do they still do the self clearance defects, i got one about a year ago at wamuran for 31x10.5's and extended shackles. all i had to do was fix the problems sign the defect notice and send it back no checks?

it sucks ass, but at least you didnt end up with a court appearance like the fukin pricks are handing out for other defects these days
these 'hoon' laws are like the 'terrorism' laws, enabling the police or whoever to do whatever the fawk they want while hiding behind the 'keeping everyone safe' bs

205*70% = 143.5mm
215*75% = 161.25mm
Difference of a whopping 17.75mm in tire profile already!!! Therefore a rolling diameter difference of 35.5mm (3.5cm) so already 3 x greater than the allowable limit of 10mm
Surely a difference of 35mm in rolling diameter wont adversely affect the zuks handling say against a worn shockie or shackle bush..............

Id say that her mechanic is trying to fleece her cause she's a chick. Tell her to tell them that its less than a 15mm increase and is legal. I bet they let her get away with it. If the call her on it then tell her to say, "thanks but I'll take my bhusiness elsewhere".
My ex got all sorts of BS reasons for failing her pink slip all the time. I told her what to say and all of a sudden everythings rosey.
Ahole's like this give mechanics a bad name IMO.
