hey there guys,

come over to the dark side for me, so just wondering,

iv got a lux diff, bundera high pinion centre in the front of my paj, just wondering at the moment its running 5.29 centres, and just trying to figure out if its worth it to try get a few hundred revs back on the freeway seeing as were going round oz in a couple weeks.

so the question being, the next ratios that match up with the lux front and paj rear diffs are 4.88s, so did anything come factory with high pinion 4.88 gears or do i have to go aftermarket???

cheers fellas,

dean. ;)

Common Toyota ratio's, depending on engine for the 8" diff:

4.11
4.56
4.88

You will probably find 4.88's in most 2L or 2LT engined vehicles. Quite common.

cheers mate thats what i thought,

but im just trying to figure if 4.88s come in high pinion??? from the factory.

im presuming the gears are reverse cut for high pinion making them weaker going one way i think reverse??? i dunno, but either way, the opposite to normal cut gears, is this right???

so i guess im trying to figure out if anyone comes factory with high pinion 4.88s so i dont have to go aftermarket $$$

You bought Franks old Paj?

You will struggle to find a second hand 4.88 HP they are the rarest centre Toyota made.

As for the rear on such a large rig. If you are looking to go custom i would look at an 60 or 80 series rear diff with chromo axles. I dont think a hilux rear centre would cope very well even with chromo axles.

I know 4.88 centres are in 2L and 2LT bundera/LJ70 cos I own one.

Is it not the case that all 2LT and 2L hilux have them too?

Hilux dont have a High pinion centre and use a different gear set.

If you end up changing ratios let me know what you want for the high pinion front gear set as im running 5.29s in my zuk buggy and a spare front gear set would be nice to have as im running a 80 series front high pinion.

cheers fellas,

and yeh i did buy franks old paj after he rolled it, reshelled it, and just sorting out a few things that frank never got to.

thansk for the help, ill see how i go for the rear, yeh im thinking 80 series rear, or even a d60, ratios are a pain in the arse, or then theres the option of full floating the paj diff. who knows, gonna travel with it for the next 12-18months or soa nd then muck around with it when i get back.

cheers guys,

dean.

How does the 60 or 80 series rear width compare to Hilux front with IFS widetrack conversion ?

80 series is roughly 4" wider than an IFS I think from memory.
