body or spring lift

i have a 87 sj50 swb. i want to fit 31 inch yokohamas on it and was wondering what would be the wat to go in regards to fitting a body or spring lift, which one is easier to do? before it was purchased(2 months) it had recently had new stock springs fitting. was wondering if anyone with a bit of knowlegde could let me no. cheers :cool:

If you keep your new (standard) springs and fit a 2" bodylift and bash the seams you should clear 31" tyres OK.

If you fit 2" raised springs AND 2" bumpstop extensions AND bash seams you'll clear 31's.

Fit 2" springs and 2" body lift and they'll fit no worries at all.

so would just a 2 inch body lift do the job or isnt it recomended

I'd go the bodylift. If you have new stock springs and a 2 inch bl plus seam bashing and cutting off/trimming the bumper outriggers on the chassis you clear the 31s. 84zooksta had stock springs, 3 inch bodylift and cleared 31" simexs which are a 32"+ tyre.

give it a go on the stock springs and see how you go. will keep COG low. but if you have the cash see above! (want33s)

I'll just add the fact that some suspension lifts will improve the ride quality of the vehicle. A body lift will have no effect. Are you happy with the current ride? If it doesn't bother you the bodylift will probably do fine.

Body lift will be cheaper (quite a bit compared to a full on suspension kit), and both will probably take similar time to fit. Though I think a body lift would be hard to do with just one person and no hoist (or block). Suspension is easy to do with a hydraulic jack and the more car stands the better. I find 5 car stands makes it a breeze, 2 for chassis, 2 for axle, and one to support the pinion flange.

have you had a read through the Sierra bible and done any sort of searchin through the forum as this answer comes up every week
