dirt and dust in the intake

Hi guys.

Just in the process of installing a 16v engine and noticed a layer of dust and grit in the intake. Not really happy with the guy I bought it off at the moment as he said it was running well before it was removed but the water pump had been banged pretty hard (may have happened since removal of engine) so I am wondering if I have been feed a line of bull shite.

I am now looking at having to pull the manifold off and clean it (may as well throw on a new gasget while I am there also) but if the dust goes further into the engine what are my options?

What is the worst case scenario with this dust? I think I know but just would like a confirmation.

I think you know the worst already

Poor aircleaners are stupid on working 4wd's IMO, the pod style oiled foam filter may produce a small power gain but they let more dust through into the engine and thus shorten its life.

Boring and all as it is, the paper style cleaners do a good job - if you want more flow use a bigger cleaner. If you want better filtration use a precleaner.
