Gas conversion questions Hilux / commadore

I have a HIlux duel cab with a VR Commadore engine and was wondering if anybody has converted theirs to gas, and what setup they did straight gas or dual fuel?
Also if possible what diff ratios and expected range out of the tank?
the more info I can gather before getting the conversion done the better.
Thanks for you help, Nick.

I got 2 of them. Go the OMVL positive pressure system with self learning computer. Diff ratio of 4.3 with a manual box will never see you need to rev the engine from a stand, just let the clutch out slow and it won't stall.
If you got a snorkel a balance tube will be needed between the filter box and converter.
Straight gas for city use in 1 of mine and 12.5 years has seen no engine damage.
As for distance traveled, about 6Kms per litre.

Hi thanks for your help the kit I was looking at uses an Emcotec gas system and uses the same computer as normal. I have had 50% of shops saying tune it for straight gas and the other saying dual fuel does not matter. I would prefer straight gas for simplicity as I work close to home and I let it warm up, before driving but it would change to gas about half way there so would not benefit much using dual fuel.

How are you going to tune it yourself?
The only thing you can do, (if you don't have a Memcal eprom programmer), is install Top Gun LPG leads and NGK spark plugs, 1 heat range cooler and set the gap to the correct setting, that's it.
The only way it can be tuned for gas correctly, is to get ripped off for a Memcal suited for gas.

He never said he was going to tune it himself.

So what do you think works better dual fuel or straight gas?
It has brand new leads and plugs in it at the moment but with 4.88 ratios it revs very high and uses alot of petrol.

Straight gas works better for your wallet and a ratio change to 4.3 will be worth it if you plan to keep it a long time.

Regards, Nick.
straight gas with an injected motor is plain silly.
you are not removing anything from the system that can run dual fuel.
you donot have a carby, all you have is a airflow sensor and a throttlebody.
the injectors, wireing everything is still there.
why would you run straight gas only??
even if you bump the comp and advance the hell out of the timing, you can stil have high octane fuel as a failover in case of emergency.
do yourself a flavour, and leve the airflow sensor in, and run dual fuel.
also if you want a GOOD set of leads use magnecor.
Cheers,
JEs

Hey V6HILUX, can you elaborate on the balance tube as I am about to install a snorkel on mine and any info or a pic would be great...

I have marked where the balance tube must be fitted. There should be a threaded hole on the back of the converter and you will need to drill a hole in the air filter box. Connect a sealed breather tube to equalise the air pressure differential caused by the snorkel.

This also depends on the converter. My Landi Converter has no hole in the rear but has a fitting in the front that can be used for this.

Top Gun do have a lead that is specifically for LPG - something to do with double S/S core. Are these bad too?
It's been about 5 or 8 years since I changed to the current Top Gun leads I have. That reminds me, I must do a resistance measure on them. I will try the Bosch next time.

The bosch spiral bound leads will resistance test better than the top guns
running them on all my vehicles 308hilux 90 maverick 350 ski boat 350 statesman
Used to run top gun on all of them but i get a lot better run out of the bosch an their only 1/2 the price
Not sure about the S/S topguns but they are still dearer than the equivilant in bosch leads
