microcat

was looking the in FAQ section and saw the link for microcat. Was really keen to get it but all the links time out or get 2 meg into download and freeze. does anyone know of a place to get it from or can upload it? thanks a lot. (if anyone needs parts in Brisbane i work in a Lexus/Toyota dealership so can get cheaper than normal daihatsu bits) also looking for a front diff to start engineering a locker (please dont laugh at me :P ) asked at abc wrecking and they wanted $375 for one, even though the car has been sitting there for 2 years :P

Front Air Locker already well under way... save your $375 ( i have already got a spare apart for the exercise )

Side gears, cross pins, spider gears, locking clutch, actuator already made. Casting for center being designed now

This is a complete bolt in replacement for the front diff, except its a solid 4 pinion unit, not the windowed salisbury style -heaps stronger. Takes the standard crownwheel/bearings/axles

I'm not selling them - if it gets that far you can deal direct with the diff specialist

And just remember, if you think a front airlocker for a Feroza is going to be cheap then price an aftermarket one first..... then PM me.

wow, really good to hear that you have got that far already. I'm not sure what you mean by saving my $375. I'm not a tight ass, just thought it was a bit rich for something that they paid that much for the whole car :P Lockers are expensive (I've got front and rear in the GQ) and manufacture isn't cheap, however i enjoy the design and building side of things. would be interested to see how you have gone about doing it.

also just wondering if you did know of where i can get microcat from. i can keep calling our kedron branch but they will start to get irritated with me because we don't have it at our indooropilly shop

What I meant to say ( in my usual clumsy way... ) is that the $375 could go towards the locker rather than a "spare" diff.

Here's the overview - the Feroza front diff is almost identical to a Sierra rear, in fact sitting side by side you would confuse them, right down to the bearings sizes, width etc etc.

However the Feroza crownwheel has more bolts than the Sierra so we can't simply use a Sierra Locker ( and we looked long and hard but.... )

So the go is to use all the internal bits from a Sierra airlocker fitted into a new housing. The Feroza axles are bigger than the Sierra so the Sierra side gears are re-splined to Feroza spline ( a very odd spline which we FOUND a broach for by accident ! ).

Whilst we are at it, the new centre will be a solid one, without the "windows" in it that substantially weaken the Salisbury design and a 4 pinion carrier instead of the 2 pinions the Feroza has. This makes the diff SIGNIFICANTLY stronger.


So basically what we are casting is the diff centre and cover plate and using Sierra internals as noted above.

So at the end of the day you disassemble your diff, take your existing crownwheel off and fit it to the locker center and put it all together again.

Its still a significant job - but...... :lol:

Oh and almost forgot, the microcat is large, about 19MB so getting it to you is going to be difficult......

Are you using an "smart" download system - one that can resume from partial downloads, might be the answer....

Firefox's DownThemAll is one such, but I'm sure there are others

I think that in a month's time or so, I will have completed my modification, which is to install a lockright locker in the feroza's front stock differential. At this time I cant be sure but from what I've found I think it is possible to be done just by changing the group with the lockright, and the inner CV joints with aftermarkets (maybe from toyota or something similar).

Well - we should have choices then - that's a first for the Feroza :cool:

Personally would prefer a selectable locker for the front but rather like the set and forget nature of autolockers for the rear.

Still each to their own when it comes to lockers - anythings better than nothing.

Ohh, I'll be keeping that in mind. Cheap parts, cheap parts in Brisbane !!

I'm guessing you got a Feroza and not a diesel Rocky?
I can help you with most things for a Rocky but know nothing about them Ferozas (they got them computer thingos in them so I stay away from them)

i like the sound of the airlocker you are creating, but the fact there are 2 different ones under construction is awesome. obviously some people with their heads screwed of straight or have too much time or money :P great work also to ferozamaniac in your research and creation. if your pretty close to getting the front one i may save my research with that and make one for the rear. the car is coming off the road soon for a gearbox/ engine rebuild and a turbo install. may as well do it all at the same time! even though its all on the gq already i dont like the rig nearly as much as the feroza. so if anyone wants a gq shorty on gas with 6 inches of suspension lift, 40 mm body lift, front and rear lockers, 1/4 cut bull car, warn winch, driving lights..... so on and so on let me know.

i also found the plug in for Firefox so will be trying to download the microcat tonight!

cheers for the offer stu, help is always appreciated. like i said i can get parts for daihatsu, Lexus and Toyota parts near our cost price. i dont usually have a problem with the efi side of things seeing as thats what i learned about cars on, carbies scare me more.......

I think an autolocker for the front is likely to be a bit cheaper, if your happy with that style - an airlocker is more complex but worth the effort for the front IMO. I hate things that fight you when your trying to turn.

A rear locker would be useful also and complete you rig - I'm running an airlocked Hilux at the rear so I don't need one.

As for "heads not screwed on" - guilty, but then you have a Feroza as well, so welcome to the club :lol:

any locker is a good locker... even a cig :) however i like the fact you can know when your air locker is on and off :) worth the money imo. yes i already know im crazy and have a bad habit of spending lots of money on cars that cost as much as my shirt :P at least when i sell the patrol ill have some money to spend on the feroza!!

Has anyone been able to download the microcat file lately ?
Both the links in FAQ's are dead.
I've been to WARFS but "search" there shows 0 results for microcat.
Googled heaps but found nothing.
Any ideas ?
19MB wont be hard to download if I can get a link that works.
