hottiemonsters suspension delema

ok it has been determined that mine is not a 3" suspension lift (more like 1.5) and i have the option to change it over to make it a 3" lift.

at the moment the 34" JTs dont rub that much and it drives quite nicely on the road. Leaving it the way it is will allow me to easily get insurance becasue it isnt that high.

what i am trying to determine is whether or not to make the car higher.

advantages would be increased travel and less rubbing (rubbing on front and rear of flares will be eradicated but usuall rubbing will probably still occur in the normal part of the wheel arch.

most people say that to run 35s you need 3" suspension and 2" body, well it seems like i can run the 34.6 tyres quite fine now with what i have.

i am stuck in a major delema to decide whether or not to leave it alone, but if i wanna go to a true 35" tyre it will have to be lifted more.

here is a poll to help me out with what people think, becasue i really dont know on this one, i have thought about it for ages but cant make up my mind.

more travel and height would be great benefit offroad but make it worse on road as the car is a daily driver.

also possibly i will need new shocks too and caster with the extra height so it is going to cost extra.

SUMMARY:

Leaving it the way it is:
get insurance.
better road handling for daily use.
no more money to spend on lift and associated things.
cant run a true 35, just fits a JT
when it starts to sag, it will be a nightmare and would need to be changed straight away to run the same tyres.

Lifting it more:
no insuracne unless engineers and change of companies
fit a true 35" tyre
decrease road handling but increase off road ability a fair bit.
more of a cop target.
look even stupider now with 31s on till i get some 33s

here a two flex shots at the moment, though the back right is in the air a little to see what the maximum suspension travel is.

Dude.. all your answers should be here, in your orignal "how do i lift my gq" mass posta/pada-thon

http://www.outerlimits4x4.com/PHP_Modules/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1208&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

Have u tried fitting a 35" with your current set up? Why spend money on more lift, when u havent tried 35"s on your current set up?

I spose it comes down to how far u wanna go with tyre sizes, insurance, road handling etc etc...

peter, don't %#&@ lift it anymore or i'm gonna have to go chop ya. just drive it as it is now and don't touch anything! i don't wanna log in one day and have marin tell me you rolled your mav and ended up in hospital. you've already come close to flopping with the current set up. learn the limits of the truck first. also, insurance and roadworthiness is a very valuable asset.

If you are really worried about the sag, lift it some more.

But will extra lift give you more articulation?

But your original summary reads like you are inclined to leave it...

Cheers,

Scott

(with a 3" lift at the rear, and plans for a 2" body lift - yes, the 31's look poxy...)

The less lift you can run for any given tyre height the better ..

i have decided to leave it alone, but i wanna see if i cant put a slightly taller spring in the rear to bring the back up a little.

insurance is the main priority here a believe and with having it 3" forget about the insurance (current)

now i just need to list the winch etc on the policy.

Smart move

Before long you have to decide as to how much further into the sport you are actually going.
My rig is now bodering on becoming a trailer queen, the mods I have planned will push it beyond registerable and will certainly make it unfriendly to drive the roads with.
It may pay to start thinking of another unit purely for offroad use.

How about choppin the $#@& out of the guards now to fit bigger tyres  Where's that option :?:

Perhaps you have already chopped the guards but there's obviously more to cut.

I try to avoid your threads cause they're...... ummmmmm... kinda repetitive :finger: Nothing personal but ya know

Do an 80's style truck with too much lift :? You'll be cooler than mr. T

I have a 3 inch suspension and 2 inch body lift and from the pics it looks as if the amount of space in the wheel arch is normal compared to mine (lots of room) I'll get a pic later on and u can compare.

What spring settin did you get? light / med /heavy dudty? and what brand?

Mine were dobinson medium duties and lifted the truck quite significatnly.

If it helps ill make measurements ???

Bugger stuffing around with it and moding this and that. Just drive it and save the coin to do the maintenance.
