First question is!
how much mucking around would there be
to change a 3F to a Deisel is it possible to do it in a FJ62?
and how much would it roughly cost?

Not much if you want to fit a 2H or 12HT.These virtually bolt straight up and only need the addition of fuel filters and a relay for the glow plugs.
Of course there are other things but only minor ones.Price guess$3-4k for 2H.
To do the 1HZ conversion requires the appropriate gearbox because the splines and input shaft are different .Price guess $5k minimum
Easiest way to do these conversions is with a donor vehicle with the desired motor so all the brackets for aircon, pulleys are already there.
www.pickles.com have auctions weekly in all cities of damaged and repo vehicles.I have seen a diesel 60 and a 61 sahara both damaged in the last 2 weeks, not sure of the price though. Most of the vehicle auctioneers have weekly online catalogues.
Expect a long search if you want something decent .
Unless you have a good reason to keep your old landcruiser its probably easier and cheaper to buy a diesel landcruiser.

thanks dude i want to keep it cause i have had a lot done to it!
from the front and rear lockers and 35s and also the body and suspension lift.
it is just a gussler of the petrol thats the main reason i wnt to change it!
is it really worth doing a change or is it better to leave it the way it is?
thanks
chris

I reakon you'de be better off running dual fuel. I was getting 300k's to $20 gas. Much cheaper to install too.

Marshal if your thinking about getting your money back at some time in the future when you sell, forget it!. Im also in the process of looking for a suitable 1HZ and gearbox and hope to offset the cost ith fuel savings.I have a 73 series with 3F and it gets about 15-17 mpg. With a diesel Im hoping to get 23-25 or an improvement of a 1/3.At my current usage of
1.5 tanks a week which costs me $110 total I should have a saving of around $30 a week or $1500 per year on diesel which means it will take 3-4 years to get my money back.
Of course there are other savings from reliability and less maintenance.
Turbo4 I looked at the cost of converting to gas and in my opinion it is only viable if you buy a car that has it already fitted.Perth also has the highest gas prices in Aust so that was another nail in the coffin for gas.
The main reason I didnt change to gas was the cost and difficulty of being able to run on 2 fuels because of the lack of space under the 73 chassis for a gas tank and a new mini petrol tank.Another reason is as my 3F has already done 250k its possible in another year or 2 it will start to use more oil ad need an engine change anyway so there is no better time to change to diesel.
Im going to look at 2x1HZ in my area this arvo .If I dont get some satisfaction soon I may sell my FJ73 and buy a HZJ75 as its all beginning to look much easier
