Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Just upgraded to Lightforce. I heard there are special lock nuts out there to secure to the bull bar. Where is the best place to get them from?

I also noticed that it is easy to unscrew the adjustable lens assembly. Has anyone heard of how to secure this?

ARB have the lock nuts, probably other places too. As for securing the lens assembly i'm not sure, but you should look into it because that's how mine were stolen.

I recently setup a couple for a client. Installed lights (with locknuts on mounting bolt), and left him to decide on focus etc, then we put a strap on the top to the bar to remove all the vibration etc. I cut a stainless hose clamp, and riveted the screw adjustment end to the top of the light, and the long strap to the bull bar. As you tighten up the strap the light points higher or lower. Sure we drilled a hole and applied rivet, but it is now much harder to pinch, and client is happy with the light that does not vibrate on rough tracks.

The locknuts are only a nyloc nut.

There are special locknuts available from ARB, TJM and others that require adaptor sockets to tighten/loosen them (like anti theft wheel nuts). The also fit the Hella 4000 as I use them myself.
They are not just the standard nylock that you can use any old spanner to undo.

$20 or $30 odd bucks on ebay. Search for 'lightforce' and they'll come up.

Run an inverter and wire up 240v to a nice little metal grill around them... They'll only touch them once.

The locknuts I used are called "Barri Nut".

They are keyed, and you need the included socket thingy to tighten.

Surely these wouldn't slow a thief down much..?

razor blades round the nuts, Old man did it to his rangie years ago Lights where there and blood on the bull bar, fixed that person.

They don't, if someone really wants to pinch your lights they will. All lock nuts do is deter the opotunistic thief as they will probably walk on to the next vehcile. Some farker pinched a vertical roller off my fairlead the other week and put the bolt back in the hole with no roller on it At least they didn't knock my lights aswell or the winch I guess!

If you really wanted to secure your lights, you could get longer mounting bolts and spot weld an additional nut to the end of the bolt. A little tough to get them off though.

I know a bloke that drove his truck to a train station one day to go into the city because his other vehicle was getting serviced. Got back about 8 hours later, and his bull bar, winch lights, UHF ariel, CDMA ariel were all gone!

I like the idea of welding on an extra on the end.

You could probably do it where you dont interfere with the thread but after the thread it gets larger stopping your normal nut comming off.

If you ever have to remove them you simply grind off the extra bit. would take 10 - 15 min longer to get them off, but it means a theif would make alot more noise with a hacksaw if they tried to get them.

ive heard of people working out where they want the focus, then putting a small, shallow screw thru the lense into the body, then taking to the phillps head bit with a drill so it cant be undone.

Remember- Locks only stop honest people

I used padlocks, not easy to get bolt cutters up under the bullbar.

The problem with the Blitz 240 though is you can unscrew the lens from the housing.

These days I rarely drive the 4by and if I do, I try and find a park hard up against a wall.

the issue as I found out lately, they can still unscrew the bodies of the lights and walk off with em if they want.

I've got some BarriNuts for my Lightforces... but as stated, it's where they fit to the mounting brackets that's the problem
I also park the Jimny's nose up against walls where possible...

i was a victim of this some prick unscrewed my lenses and walked happily away with them including my bulbs for spares.....

$240 later i got new lenses and did as mentioned above, i decided on a focus and drilled a small pilot hole through the lenses into the body and put a screw in there and cut the head of it..

your gonna ask what happens when a bulb blows??

copped that too, have to drill out screw carefully and change bulb then put new screw, i used little electronic screws about 4 mm long, you cant even see them there.

at the end of the day if someone wants they are gonna break them getting them off so if i cant have them neither can they, its only fair considering i bloody paid for them...

You can drill a small hole through both the nylock and bolt and hammer in a small roll pin, wont stop them unscrewing the lens but they wont undo the bolt and punch out the pin with a shifter in a hurry.

yep that would slow down the casual thief...
You could also use a castellated nut with the roll pin to save drilling the nut
