free wheel hubs

hi all need a little help now i think my free wheeling hubs may be stuffed in the gu last few times i was out i manualy lock in the hub or even leave it on auto but i get a loud clunk or click noise from the front is there anyway i can test them or should i throw them away and just get normal ones ?

Sounds like you might have a worn cv joint.
rare to have noises like that from freewheel hubs.

how are they a freewheeling hub if you have an auto position on them?

my auto hub cracked down the drive and was ratcheting on the CV, pull the hub n have a look.

ok ill pull em down but how do i tell if there stuffed what am i looking for and if it was the cv it wouldnt it make that noise all the time???

My GQ had similar issues... would make a loud clunk occasionally... turned out that when the wheel bearings were redone the bloke put them back together wrong causing them not to fully engage... I had one disintergrate on me when pulled out and fortunately the other was fine.

CV will only make noise if the hubs are engaged, usually easier to make a worn cv make noise while turning in 4wd with hubs locked.
Should also make noise in 2wd when turning as long as long the hubs are in the locked position, but may need to be put under a load (eg. as above)if it is not badly worn.
