AXT or DTS turbo kit - 1HZ

Ok, my dilemma, if you will. The next thing to go on the 80 is a turbo kit, and cooler. The AXT kit is very good, using Garret turbo, braided lines, s/steel clamps etc etc. The DTS kit is much the same, but using a Mitsubishi TD05H turbo (once again VERY good, anyone that tells u otherwise needs to wake up!). both turbo have ALMOST the same AR's as each other, both are comparatively the same "size".

The intercooler kits are my problem. The AXT kit uses a top mount i/c, with a fan/air blower pushing CONSTANT air flow onto it REAGARDLESS of the speed of the car, and therefore requiring no bonnet vent (a plus!). Altho the i/c is a bit smaller than the DTS one, its a bar and plate item, which are a bit better at cooling the charged air. The DTS top mount is slightly larger than the AXT one, but requires a bonnet vent and "scoop". This idea i dont like cos when in low range, your never going fast enough to get ANY sort of air flow onto the cooler.

The prices of the 2 kits are pretty much the same (maybe $150 difference, DTS being more exxy), and i will be fitting it myself. It will be tuned by Dyvesh at West End (dyno), and have a 3" s/steel exhaust.

Does anyone here have either of these 2 kits on any 1HZ 4wd?? Any feedback would be great!

I have a mitsi turbo on my lux (well had) and it has been a great unit. The lux ones are smaller than other lux ones so it boosts from lower in the rev range which has been perfect for wheeling. its not on the lux now cause I have just sold my 2.8 and am puttimg in either a V6 or the toyota V8 BJ has (depending on what year it is).

have you considered the SHWITZER TURBO KIT? these turbo kits are usually cheaper use less boost to do the same job as a garret kit (eg shwitzer... 7 psi = garret...10 psi) the SHWITZER turbo is set up to come in at about 900-1000rpm so you will have boost all the way up un like the turbo kits were the turbo doesnt kick in till 2000-2500rpm the SHWITZER TURBO is oil cooled and you can even set up an oil cooler off it with no problems or hassells i have just purchased a SHWITZER TURBO KIT for my 3.4ltr 3B yota donk and im still waiting for it as we speek... ive bourght mine from denco turbo charging in WAGGA WAGGA

try there web site....... www.dencodiesel.com

as for ya intercooler dilema what about fitting windscreen washers to the just in front of you bonnet scoop ....this will allow you to squirt ,when needed a fine spray of water over you intercooler when crawling in low range...and you cood even go one step further buy attachin a smaller thermo fan to the intercooler as well ;) i have found a 4x4wrecker that selles imported intercoolers try this

I don't know if the Yota turbo systems from Denco are different to the Nissan systems, but on the Nissans they use a high mount turbo which makes it extremely difficult to fit a top mount aftermarket intercooler.
Also the air filter assembly from Denco has to be replaced if you want to go for a top mount.

Read the forum on Heaths gu in members section. From that I would not worry about the fan on top of the intercooler cause they do fuck all anyway! (compared to a water to air cooler anyway)
I would go with the mitsi turbo and bigger intercooler. I have only heard good stuff about the water cooled mitsi units and dts seem to have a good rep. The scoop on the bonnet would more than likely look pretty good and be functional 90 percent of the time.

Hey Jake I was told the same thing about the shwitzer turbo (lower boost and lower in rev range) The guy I talked to gave em a big rap and said he consistantly got more power from them than any other. But I was also told by a couple of other people that water cooled is the beter way to go so I got confused as ya do when you talk to two different people about the same topic!!!
