CV Prices

Why are CV prices so high
I broke two last weekend and thought I would just nip down and get some good used ones for about $100. WRONG!
Ok one is totally gone but I think I can save money buy getting just one and get the other rebuilt. WRONG again, rebuilt was more than secondhand.
Stuff it, I will just get new ones..... $840 each side
I don't think so.
What is the justification for the prices of CVs? When it comes down to it, they are just 5 ball bearing in a cage covered by a boot.
