Timing belts on a Challenger 3 litre V6

This has probably been covered lots of times but I am basically lazy !
How often is replacement supposed to be done ? Is it decided as a function of distance travelled or time or a combination of both ?
In a worst case scenario is this an interference engine ? Will valves hit pistons or will it fail safe ?
I was able to find posts about replacing waterpumps at the same time. Is that vital too or just an economy and convenience decision ?

Workshop books seem impossible to find so far.
Thanks

Mate, sent you a PM, guess you didn't get it. I've got an electronic copy of the workshop manuals for the challenger and the 6G72 here, give me a yell if you want them.

Every 100k the belt should be changed.

Also consider replacing water pump and oil seals.

I had my water pump seaize at 190k. This resulted in the timming belt being melted, belt covers being damaged (the belt moved forword) and a lot of other damage.

Luckly the ealry G72 v6 is non-interfeance.

Is that the 12-valve SOHC?

Good to know.

Yep , the 12-valve SOHC v6 is non-interfeance. (it means if you drop the timming belt the pistons wont hit the valves)

The later models are interfeance in other words "BANG"

Paydirt, sent. :)

gp - yeah, that's what I thought. Which one is the better motor? I was hoping we got the DOHC here, should be a fairly easy swap for the twin-turbos on a 3000GT, but I haven't seen anything to say we did. All anyone says is 6G72, don't know a lot about them. When did Mitsi switch to the 24-valve in the tritons?
