x 2.
The 3F was a 4.0l and the later 80's (93 onwards) had the 1fzfe 4.5l motor which was heaps better. Get one of them and drop it in. Not worth playing around with the 3f. Might want to check if the bellhousing marrys up to the original gearbox though...

dropping the 3F in the nearest harbor is about the only thing you can do to improve them...

Ill give him the good news, burn the car and buy a new one.
doing a 4.5 conversion costs too much cheaper to sell his and buy one that came factory.
Think hes a little annoyed that my paj eats him on and off road.

That motor is what my $15,000 remark above was amid at.
Its a turboed, fuel injected shinny home for fish.

yep. PCmans is an impco 225 (was a 200 when i saw it, and it was good for 10psi), a second hand skyline turbo (nissan of some description), piping, and an ebay intercooler.

The engine builder says were good for 400hp/300kw @ 12PSI from his calcs. (Scary)
However I am quite aware that the Crank even though cradled has only 4 main breaings. I think the Nissan stright 6 has 7. So we are pussing the limits of what a 2F can and should do way past what Toyota had in mind.
The build has however be a lot of fun and wether I fall flat on my face or not at least I have tried. I would be more than happy with 200hp+ and reliability.

The yanks have done alot of turboing to the 3f....it looks like you have done your homework, revs will kill it as opposed to the kw's Should be a stump puller, which is what your after.....
Impressive attention to detail

Revs are hard cut both fuel and ignition at 5500 by the ECU

5500 is 25% more than std. Is the crank 25% stronger?
Make sure this surge tank gets topped up faster than its used....no1 reason for turbo motor failure.....if possible, you should look for an efi pump in tank setup to supply the surge tank. There have been so many ppl with 304 efi in 3f 80 series that have come undone...fix was the 4.5 tank and pump or 3fe which is thesame.

I thought crank strength was more important when you took the "bang" (force per square inch when the piston fires) and not the rotational speed (where things like rod length etc is more important?).
there's a dude in nz that has a 7000rpm cutoff on his non-turbo 2F, should be fine from that point of view. i can see the mains walking or the crank snapping where there isn't a bearing supporting the crank (between 1 and 2 or 5 and 6).
