G'day I'm seriously considering buying a mid 90's Pajero. Is the 3.5ltr a better motor than the 3.0ltr. Is it more economical? I've heard it's a major job just replacing spark plugs on these motors? Are ther any inherent problems with these cars?

3ltr can burn valves every 100k and no where as powerfull as 3.5
3.5 motor costs 3 times what it does a 3ltr to rebuild and yes you have to lift the inlet to do the plugs on a 3.5 but thats only every 100k if im not wrong

My 3.5 burnt a valve and no you don't need to take the inlet manifold off to get the plugs. 100k plugs. It is not rally a major to do, easily in a half hour if you have done it before, prob a couple the 1st time!

Cam belt can be a bit of a job to do. Good motor, revs nicely and very smooth. Good torque.

From what I believe they are more economical than the 3 if driven normally, I know they can drink however.

3.5's also get worn valve stems like any mitsi motor - you'd think one day they'd get it right.

I'd buy another one no hesitation.
