Outer Limits 4x4 Board

I'm running a 80 series Brake booster and master cylinder on my YN65 Lux. These are from a 80 with disc alround. I hooked up a custom made cutting brake system for the rear wheels today and found the rear brakes don't work much at all on the rear when the foot brake is applied.
Is this because the master cylinder is from a all disc car???

Any help Please.

Possibly as you need to displace more fluid into the drum brake master cyl than you do into the 80 series rear calipers.

Should I go back to a hilux master cylinder?? Maybe a LN106 one or later.

It may help. Are the rear brakes adjusted correctly. You may find the cutting brake has enough fluid displacement to work the rears but the MC doesnt.

Ive never fitted an 80 MC to a hilux with rear drums so im only taking slightly educated guesses here.

What is "cutting brake system"

I have the 80 series boost/master on mine running IFS rear housing/drums and it works great, even the handbrake

I do have braided lines though.

Cutting Brakes is where you can operate what ever wheel you want. I made mine from 2 clutch master cylinders from a lux 5/8 bores to operate the two rear wheels. Hope it works.

I thought I heard awhile back that you had to pull the 80 series master cylinder apart and remove something inside to use it for drum brakes.

Has anybody heard of this???

Why would you run a 80 series mc and booster if you still have rear drums

ive heard the 80series mc gives a bit better braking

You need to use a hilux/surf V6 brake booster and cylinder, they are significantly larger booster...

I have a LN106 and when i put this on my brakes were definately better... I think they are a double diaphragm booster as well.

I thhink I found out what was wrong. I think I had the cutting brake mastercylinders set too fine and was stopping the brake fluid flowing properly. The cylinders are setup in a way to stop the brake fluid flowing backk to the bottle.

Cheers for the replies anyway. Need to put a spring on the piston shafts to stop them floating about.

So you just have one line comming out of each of these and T'ed into the rear lines is this correct?
