Hi all,
I'm looking at getting one of
theseGME 3420 UHF radios for my '00 GV.
Just wondering if anyone has any experience with these units and any tips on mounting them.
If possible, I would like to mount the remote head above the rear-view mirror, like my mate did in his jeep. I'll try to dig up some photos.
I want to keep the cabin as uncluttered as I can.
Any advice?
Pics would be helpful.
Pete.
Edit: Any suggestions on good mounting spots for aerials?

We have a few hundred of the GME radios at work and have had very few problems with them. They are used in rental 4wds so they get no loving at all!
Sorry I don't have suggestions for mounting spots as I drive a Sierra. For mounting the aerial, just keep in mind heights. You don't want the aerial hitting every passing tree or underground carpark ceiling or garage door. Either front bumper/bar or bonnet edge is easiest for routing cables.

x2 on the GME.
for even lower clutter look at a TX3440. The power mic has come a long way since the 80's when they used to short out alot. you can mount the controller under a seat or under the dash and just have a mic with all the buttons and LCD display on it.

G'day I have a uniden (cant remember model no but looks like uh 015) in my 01 xl7. I removed the ashstray & made a bracket for the head to mount to. Was fiddly but looks like factory fit. I mounted the microphone clip on one of the blanking panels where the hazard light switch is. Sorry no pics at the minute. Have had no probs with the uniden.

Hey mate,
I have a 2002 GV 2-Door. and a GME TX-3200 Radio.
Wanting to keep the inside of the car as clean as possible, I purchased the GME DIN adaptor kit. Best fitting UHF I have ever owned.

Thanks all for the replies.
I like the look of the 3200 radio bendev looks great.
Is the speaker loud enough to hear with it tucked in-dash like that? I'd imagine yes.
Seeing that makes me wonder about bothering with the 'remote head' idea of the 3420.

I was worried about longevity of these units, but looks like you've answered my questions about them.

yeah i'm pretty happy with how loud it is. I was out all day today and even the guys that had 0.5watt hand held UHF units were coming through pretty clear and loud. but like all ways, as soon as you get over a few sand dunes they do get hard to understand, but i think thats because the lack of power from there units and not of the way i mounted my UHF in the dash.
