hey all!! Just wondering if the top spring in this pic will have to much "pressure" on it, and would bust when the wheel drops down with articulation?? I opened up the spring clamps without studying it fiirst.. hmmm, oopsy's. So should i make up another clamp setup, or should it be ok?? Thanks heaps!

i bet that gap is about 2" - the amount your leaves are lifted? =) are they cheap leaves?
Usually its the load leaf that gives the lift not the top one.

leave the spring clamps off. allows spring to open and aid in travel. its best to open them then weld a bolt across the top of the open clamp. allows seperation of the spring without them moving sideways.

B4T - are you saying that spring clamps with longer "sides" of the U are worth doing ?

not sure what type they are!! They are hilux fronts, that i'm currently putting into the rear. my original zook ones are the same set up, with that HUGE gap between the top and 2nd leaf when the wheel is dropping down. So.. No-one here thinks that the top spring in that pic will break?? But i should also make some sort of new clamp yeah??

my hilux leaves didnt do that when i had the clamps open... sure, at full flex they'd separate - ie: when being levered on, but not when they were just sitting there under no load at all.
I've left my clamps on though, flexes enough as it is =P

the clamps are only there to spread the load when under full droop, they dont do much when there is weight on them.
it shouldnt seperate at all there without any load on it, should it?

I have all the clamps open on my leaves and it seems fine. It only fans out on max droop.

OHhhhhhhhh well of course it will come apart if you're levering it! ahhah i thought the spanner was just sitting there, not prying it open! hahaha
Well yes, you'll be fine then...
just check brake lines arent being pulled tight when flexing.

hehe.. sorry mate!! Sweet, thanks heaps!! I just expected that the top leaf wouldnt be enough on its own to support the weight of the wheel etc when that wheel may be picked up off the ground! It all makes sence now.. tar lots peoples
