My 22R is shit with fuel in the Hilux Dual Cab. I use around half a tank for every 200kms... Anyone else can shed some light on this?
I drive it pretty slowly most of the time, but if the traffic situation needs be I'll wind 2nd or 3rd all the way out...

they are a poo engine for economy, but you need to talk in litres per 100km so people can judge whether your economy really is bad or not.
make sure the ignition timing is spot on.
make sure the valve clearances are right. also check your timing chain for stretch, if the timing chain is stretched, the valve timing will be retarded and economy will suffer.
make sure all the vacuum hoses are connected right on the carby and everywhere else.
make sure your air filter isn't full of leaves and dirt. (if you have a foam or oiled cotton filter, throw it away and get a factory paper one).
pump up your tyres. you have to find a balance between acceptable tyre wear and fuel economy.

22R was the first Toyota engine I ever owned! SUCKED IN to me! $50 in the first 3 day of driving in 1995.
2 weeks later it was Straight LPG!
What more can I say?

Yeah it's hard to say, sometimes its good sometimes I get in, basically drive around the block and it's down another quarter.
I have checked tank and fuel lines for leaks, but I think the only place it's leaking is through the carby and being burnt
Ohwell, I'll just have to suck it up. It could be to do with the type of fuel I run also. I notice when I go to a cheaper fuel station (Metro, Volume Plus etc) the fuel is pretty lame, goes no where and the ute runs rough, whereas if I pay $1MILLION a litre for like Vortex98 it runs like a V12, sounds sweet and lasts longer.
Will have to look into either a VR V6 or maybe even a 2.4DT
