My 6lt arrived now I am re thinking transmission options.

I was planning to use 1 hz 5 speed and have had some difficulties organising an adaptor. I'm sure its possible but will almost certianly work out dearer then an auto. and after seeing photo's of an exploded marks kit I have written that off as an option (although my last one worked fine)

I have come across these:

http://holmart.com.au/online/prod1906.htm

and am considering fitting one to either a gq / gu or landcrusier split transfer.

is it possible to fully manualise these such that I can use a manual wiring harness and shift through gears with the lever only? Is this as waterproof as a t400

am I better buying a b and m t400 off rocket ($2500 inc shifters oil lines etc)

any info would be great.

regards

Justin

4l60e and 4l65e are essentially the same box. the 65e is a bit stronger version of the 60e. 65e came out with the late 5.7's vy 2 and early 6 ltrs vz series.

they are a electronically controlled transmission so i dont kno how u would go with full manual setup. can prob tune it into it. as for waterproof i have no idea.

a lot of guys break these in the commodores. when they have more hp they go to t400's

I would prob opt for the T400 for strength. The 4l65e can be manualised Via an electronic control module. It is essentially an fully programable control module for the trans. But it is a bit pricey.
The t400 would be stronger and more reliable i think.

go to ls1.com.au, the forum has plenty of info on bolting the 400 to the ls2. It bolts up except for one hole and a spacer for the torque converter.

Off topic and entirely out of curiosity - can the 80 series auto handle much power, is it upgradeable, and can shifting be altered/manualised (i think it's electronically controlled?)

The 4l80e is a basically a 4 speed version of the T400. What were you planning to run the engine with?? A factory or aftermarket ECU? You can use the factory ECU to control the 4l60 4l65 or 4l80. I have a Gen III turbo with a 4l80e that is currently a stock trans making 325 rwkW and I use the LS1 ecu to do all the normal shift stuff including 2 shift modes, this is adjustable in software including shift pressure and shift points based on rpm or road speed. I Have also tuned up a couple with the 6.0L L76 that use a separate TCM in conjunction with the E38 GM ECU and they work well. They can be manualized no problem.
A standard 4l80e is good for around 600 hp, modded they can be good to 1200 hp.

I have heard they will handle 400+kw with a new torque converter and valve body.
As for manualising it, i Am working on a tiptronic style controller for them, as this is what i am going to use behind my gen3.

The 4L80E is a large and heavy box isn't it?
also does it have a removable bell housing like the late model 4L60E/65E
And what did the 4L80e come in in Australia?
