Outer Limits 4x4 Board

With regards to the title, the bearing in the pulley
has crapped out, was wondering if the bearing in
the centre is replacable or if a new pulley is on the cards.

I ask as I am wanting to know if the reason the bearing
won't come out is due to the fact that it doesn't come out
or that it needs greater persuasion than I have already given
it.

If its the plyvee PS idler on a Feroza its a standard bearing and is removable.

Although was kinda hoping it wasn't just my muppet arms
that were stopping the bearing from coming out

IIRC I pressed mine out using a couple of sockets and a bench vice.

Even with a new bearing there's a little bit of "rock" in the assembly, but once a belts fitted its fine.

Whats happened to yours ?

Basically seized and let go completely. The only thing that
remained was the inner and outer grooved rings and the
ball bearings....

Lucky I wasn't driving, I was actually letting the car idle with the
bonnet up to find where the week old "whining" sound was coming
from.

I could hear the bearing start to seize and basically once I saw
sparks I knew and quickly jumped to turn the ignition off...

Never seen a bearing go that quickly though after the onset of noise.....

I've got access to a hydraulic bearing press and all the drift sizes for common bearings you could possibly imagine.

Probably even got the bearings if they are a common size.

Press is located in Northgate area. if you need a hand just let me know.

Crisis over though, manned up and showed the bearing
who's boss with the help of a vice and sockets per MM's
yoda-esque advice

Haven't been here for a while...

I think i'm having the same problem. Getting a fair bit if noise coming from the pulley/bearing. It's been there for a wile now, it's horrible when there's moisture in the air (rain, humidity etc), and disappears when i've been driving for about 10mins. Will also appear when i spray any water near the area.

Was just wanting to know if the replacment bearings are easy to find? Auto spares?

I'm sorry if my questions seem too simple for you all to pay any attention to, but i've contacted toyota in an attempt to locate a genuine part and they want to sell me the whole pully etc. Is it possible to just get the bearing alone? Will i have to take it out first and try a bearing shop?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

hey,

now i dont know for sure but with nost bearings or seals you can almost always find the right size if you take the old one out and down to a bearing shop such as ABC bearings on the norhtern beaches if you are close

I'm leaning away from the bearing now 'cause the noise isn't there all the time... could be very wrong there??

Might start with the belt etc, and see what happens from there.

Although, i guess while it's apart, should do the bearing at the same time, just in case

Its standard "off the shelf" bearing. go to your friendly local bearing suppier and that's the issue resolved.

pretend to be ( or better still be ) trade and you'll get a substantial discount....

All done...bearing was $10
