UHF Radio blowing Fuses

My UHF has been wired into my truck for about four years and have never had a hassle with it or the wiring.

Went to use it today, and it wouldn't switch on. Had a look at the fuse and it was blown. Replaced the fuse with another 2 amp fuse and it worked and then when I pressed the talk button and transmitted, the fuse blew again.

Upgraded the fuse to a 5 amp fuse and now it seems to work fine? Why is this so, and could I potentially damage the radio by upgrading the fuse?

yes

check your wiring, something may have worn thru and be shorting out and the extra power from transmiting may be blowing it

Which wiring?

The power source seems fine and there is no leakage along the line and I have tested it with a multi tester and all seems fine.

Could a break in the coax to the ariel cause this problem?

It was a break in the coax. All seems to be working fine now, have taped it up for the time being but will probably replace it down the track.

I'd suggest switching back to the smaller fuse, and if that doesn't blow now, you can fix down the track.
If it's still blowing 2A fuses, fix the coax properly, or expect damage to your radio.

And if the coax hasnt fixed it, look for a short in your hand piece. You said it blew the fuse when you transmitted, so could be a short in there.
