just wondering how much oil I need to buy to do a engine service on my 4.2 petrol TB42? thanks!

Read the book in your glove box.........

My guess would be about 10 - 12 litres.

Buy 2 5litres and you'll have some spare, usually a little over 8 litres with filter.

spot on, 8 and a bit with filter. (8.4 comes to mind)

Just out of curiosity had a look at workshop manual The TB42 with filter is 8.2L without filter 7.7L
the RB30 With filter is 6.4L without filter 6L
