2.5 TD on WVO (Bio Diesel)

Post by n_dorphin »

Hey Guys,

Don't want to start debates about this type of setup or bio diesel.
I'm after info and a little advise form anyone that has run a 2.5 TD Pajero on filtered and the heated Waste Vege Oil.
I'm pondering this conversion but need a little direction on this application

I am going down the same path bud.

What i have done is bought a aux fuel tank (cost me 40 buks off ebay) that goes in the back of my Triton (I have the 2.5TDI 4D56T aswell) which the WVO sits in, then i have a fuel line going from the tank to a heat exchange and the front of the vehicle, the heat exchange runs off the vehicle water tempreture and heats the WVO up prior to injection. Along the line should be a inline filter, i use a homebrew canister with a 10 micron filter in it. Comes out of the heat exchange into the injector pump, warm and filtered.

The return comes out and goes straight back in to the "in" line, this is because its already warm and filtered.

You will need to get a valve (pollock or something off ebay) that allows you to control the diesel wvo injection. You will need to start the car on diesel and turn the car off on diesel (turbo timer or something).

Try and get the cleanest oil you can, make sure its well filtered.. its all in the filtering!

Correct! There are a few different types of pumps that dont like SVO/WVO, through a bit of research it seems that its the more modern IP's that fail frequently due to it.

4D56/4 i believe use a VE style pump which, luckily.. loves WVO!

But as i said.. it needs to be very well filtered oil

Jason,

I don't know what year your truck is, and therefore what pump you have, but I have been running my NH [1991 MKII] 2.5TD Paj on 30% SVO [70% diesel] for over 12 months with no problems. It has the Jap winter pack with heated fuel filter and has no problems starting or running in UK winters. Although theres only a 20p a litre saving on SVO here in the UK I still use it as it runs quieter on SVO and has lower emmisions on the UK MOT test and is less smokey on kickdown than straight dino diesel. Some of the guys here run 70% SVO with no changes. Pump seals on the 2.5 are far more forgiving than those of the 2.8. but if you are going the WVO route then just make sure the stuff is well filtered ie. a 10 micron or less filter .....not a quick pass through the wifes best fishnet stockings .. :)

Sods law an'all ...my mate owns a chipshop but I can't get WVO of him as he has spent a few hundred quid on a fancy filtering device that allows himto re-use his WVO dozens of times before having to bin it ..

Thanks Guys,
I'm thinking of this set up.

Gravity Filter at home to the finest filtering I can do (Cold to help catch rubbish)
Run a tank under bonnet or under car, The fuel line from WVO tank will have coolant line and return besides them to circulate heated motor water to assist heating and the just switch with a pollock or similar valve. I will also run a Ryco type filter.

How do you control the return when switch back to Dino? I was thinking the WVO could contaminate your Dino????

How does this setup sound?

thanks Jason

Hey Guys,
Also wanted to ask the best way to return WVO inline after pump instead of running return to tank...
Would this create surge or fuel starvation problems????
