Bigger Turbo on TD42!!

Hi all,
Sent my Garrett T3 turbo off to GCG in Sydney the other day to be remodelled! It’s the turbo that is used as part of the Safari kit on the TD42. I came up with some ideas and this is what they want to do:
Machine my T3 housing to suit a GT3071R 84 trim turbine wheel, and GT3071R CHRA.
Fit a GT2871R 48 or 52 trim compressor wheel to the GT3071R CHRA and then machine my T3 compressor housing to fit over the new comp wheel. Phew!!
Either that or just be boring and rebuild my existing turbo with a larger compressor wheel and machined housing out front. GCG didn’t have too many suggestions as to what they thought would be good/not good. It seems a lot of people only want to know what you want them to do and then hang up! (OK, enough whinging!)
The injector pump has had the 12mm plunger mod and the vehicle has a rather large front mount safari intercooler (it’s a GQ) and in current trim with the original turbo produced 130rwkw. It will climb to over 600 centigrade though, even with 18psi going in which is why the turbo has been shipped off.
I’d love to hear people’s comments as I know there’s been many go down this path before chasing big horsepower with manageable EGT’s. (Please tell me what works!!)
Regards,
Muz

hi flowing T3 to the same specs as what the VL turbos took theirs out to basically
works great ... also run 3" straight through no mufflers

read with interest what you're doing with the GT3071R. Im currently building a TD42T up with this turbo (0.63A\R standard comp trim) on it and have been a little concerned about the EGTs. I am using a 400hp PWR water\air cooler, Ported and flowed the head with extractors and 3" xhaust to hopfully help in this area.
If you go through the forum lists PGS 4wd has done a few projects customising these 2 units and building a strong hybrid unit. Its a good read.
Another thing ive been told is to use a lift pump, its supposed to lower temps though i cant see how.
Will be watching the EGTs with crosseed fingers on its first run!
Let us know how you get on, and any input is appreciated.......

Its good idea to have free flowing turbo however how much is it going to cost to modify yours.... A custom spec roller bearing turbo will set you back about 2k.....
To assist reducing air temps are you getting enough air and letting enough air escape?
I.e larger snorkle 4"
Good pipe work for the intercooler?
Large airbox and 4" piping to the inlet of the turbo...
this is what i have done and my temps are lucky to get over 400 at 15psi and boost wound up..... My pump is getting rebuilt now so its getting the 12m plunger and lot of other work.. The boost is going upto 25- 28.... however i dont think i will have to much issues overheating...... as ive good a good clean setup...

any chance of some pics of the Air cleaner setup, if not what one did you use on a 4" intake? .........need the flow for about 160kw

yeah pics of that 4 inch setup would be great also what is it made from, stainless? and i have heard by using a metal snorkel you can hear the turbo alot more a bit like a truck
