I read this article at the newsangency today, the review was very short and vague and the price was $399 for the 17 inch rims they tested. I don't remember the tyre size.

Sounds like the old mud terrain with a different tread pattern and an extreme price tag.
Would have to be similar in price to the olds to be viable.

Have they bumped it up to 1500 denier plys to match Cooper/Procomp/MickeyThompson etc in total thickness.

All the problems? They trap mud and sand between the tyre and rim at low pressures but every brand and type of tyre I've used has done that!
BFG recommend using tubes on their muddies if going below 22psi to prevent beadleaks. They knew it was a problem.
I had the old KM's (with rim protectors) in 33's once and they were a bloody fantastic tyre.
These new ones sound like the old but with just a new tread pattern and a higher price tag. :roll:

Agreed.... I stopped buying 4wd Australia when every new vehicle they reviewed was either a Porsche, Volvo, VW, BMW, Audi etc......

Would be interested to read the article on the cover about Blue Rag though. I was up there about a month ago.

There is the BFG Krawler KX, the BFG MT KM DT, and the BFG MT KM2

The Krawler T/A KX (KX is for Key feature: eXtreme traction) is BFGoodrich's Off-Road Maximum Traction tire for off-road enthusiasts who participate in the extreme driving sport of rock crawling to challenge their driving skills and the off-road performance of their vehicles. This purpose-built rock crawling tire was developed through participation in competition as BFGoodrich worked directly with rock crawling enthusiasts.

The Krawler T/A KX features a softer tread compound based on BFGoodrich's years of off-road experience molded into an extra deep tread design. During the Krawler T/A KX development it was decided that it would be beneficial to develop two different tread designs in the 37x12.50R17 size. The first design is molded with a tread pattern that combines deep, aggressive independent blocks with solid sidewall lugs. The second design starts with only the tread pattern's continuous center rib and inner and outer lateral lugs molded. The remaining tread pattern can be further personalized by hand-grooving it to add sipes and/or to generate a unique block pattern. While hand grooving a tire requires specialized equipment, skill and practice, it provides the ultimate in tread design flexibility. The BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain T/A KM2 (KM for Key feature: Mud traction and 2 identifying it as BFGoodrich's 2nd generation KM tire) is an Off-Road Maximum Traction tire developed for off-roaders driving full-sized, lifted trucks that participate in rock climbing and/or other challenging off-road driving. The Mud-Terrain T/A KM2 is designed from the mud up to overcome almost any obstacle in its path by combining more traction and mud-clearing ability than its predecessor with a smoother ride and less road noise than normally expected from an aggressive tire.

The Mud-Terrain T/A KM2 molds an off-road tread compound into a Krawler T/A KX-inspired symmetric design that features deep, self-cleaning independent tread blocks and linear transverse flex zones that provide the elasticity needed to allow the tire to conform to off-road obstacles when aired-down and driven at low speeds.

The tire's internal structure includes twin steel belts and BFGoodrich's Krawler TEK sidewalls and carcass. dont think i can wait that long. i really want a new set of tires for the GU but looking at the price difference between the old muddies and the new, i might just get another set of the old ones and save some money.
maybe get a second hand set of play tires with the extra money

spoke to the importer today, and they said the AUS release was meant to be last month but it has been put back to August, and there is only a very few 315/75R16 allocated and being imported into Aus, and most of these are already allocated to the current back orders.

need new tyres before that..

Well with around 1000 land cruiser sales a month there's gotta some people they're in touch with. Same with 400+ BMW sales this last mothn.

I think you'd term them the "Wheels" magazine of the 4wd world not "Street Commodores" like some other magazines :roll: (ignore the fact that the two pairs of magazines are from the same publishers, or maybe that indicates something ? )

As for the wheels it sucks there is such a discrepancy between US prices and Aus prices. I'll be looking for a new set with the disco soon and with the reduced k's its doing a set of these would be awesome.
