600km before my 40 000 km service my Diff has blowen i was in a no power situation costing up to some roadworks at about 50kms /h. I am pissed because i have been complaining to my local dealer about a driveline noise for 30000klms.
Has anyone ever heard of the D40 blowing rear diffs or diff problems in general
thabks Brad
and yes it has cracked the housing but still drives

what was the driveline noise you complained about?
My old man's D40 has a bit of a clunk (backlash?) in the rear diff...

it was a wine but it wasnt there at full power and at around 80. it also made a dry bearing type noise when fully off the power. but suprise suprise the wonderfull automotive technicians at my closest nissan dealer couldnt find any noise at all untill the 30000 service and they deemed it tobe a normal operating noise

Carry much load?
Mabye run over to the USA frontier forums (if they exist)? D40 sells much larger quantities over there and you might have more luck finding out if that dana is getting a reputation or not.

sorry for the late reply guys origin function have taken there toll .
I have broken the center where they havent told me yet but i have a small hole through the hosing about where the large pinion bearing would be bur it still drives just very noisy when unloaded.
nisan have said they are going to replace the whole assembly, allthough they can't tell me when and have hired me a ute so i am pretty happy with the service i have recieved but it would be good to now when it will be fixed

There was a recall in Europe also. It was about rear diff and driveshaft.

Does anyone know if this problem also effects the D22 series 1 and 2 Navara? or any other issues they have for that matter?
Cheers

D22 are not affected as they still use Nissan axles (H190, C200 & H233), the D40 uses some Dana44 derivate.

Great news hope you have no more troubles.
Be happy at least you got a Nissan dealer that came to the party.

Most Don't.
