it's come time to change the pads on the front discs on the zook... was just wondering what ppl use and recommend in terms of brands or compounds and any other useful information...

standard pads that are in there seem to bite ok, is it worth extra $ to go anything better?

I just use the standard Bendix ones for the front and rebonded ones for the rear ..

Hey Stumped,

Since you are doing it - how about telling me how you were able to tell that it was time to replace the front pads?

(it sounds a lot like maintenance to me - so of course i know nothing about it )

generally when you hit something you shouldn't is a good time to consider changing the brakes Sort of like at the snow really. that was warning number 1

I think that was more likely caused by driver error (of the blue car ) and a lack of traction on the ground surface.

for one, they scream like a banshee whenever i hit the brakes, that's always a giveaway the second is that when we rebuilt the steering knuckles the other weekend, we found out why they were squealing - worn like \ instead of like |

now for that useful ( ) bit of info on maintenance, i expect you to put up with all my stupid noob mod questions

Oh well .. I am a padder after all ... . But as I have only 900 or so posts that menas i give you crap on less than 50% of yor posts.. I would say anly 700 or so would be about giving you rubbish .. the rest would be about how SPOA is better than SPUA ..

And back onto tech .. If your barke pedal is feeling a bit low, check your brakes (especially rear drums if you been playing in the mud) fronts are usually pretty good for around 20,000 kms between checks (from new that is) if your off-roading alot in gritty mud and have bigger rubber than say a 31 .. check every 10,000 or so .. ( you can look in the little slot in the top of the caliper to see how much material is left on the brake pad) ..

Cool - yep - i replace the back ones twice or thrice a year... but just wasn't sure about the fronts.

haha, not likely! but at least i'm not asking if my 31s are going to fit under my zook with spoa, 2" springs, and 4" bodylift

Actually they wont .. you will need a 17inch rim and some 235/30/17's for that setup ... ploished to a high state of "bling" ... ask gerg .. he knows all about this stuff
