hi guys, does anyone know the name of the componet that controls the pressure on the back brakes...what ever the component is mine is leaking and was wondering what the name of it was so i could find a replacement part. It is located just next to the rear right wheel arch on the chassis.
Here is a photo.

Would this part be easy to replace?
Thanks

Easy to replace, just need to bleed the brakes after.
Bloody expensive though for newies, got a quote for around $300.
Maybe try a second hand one from the wreckers..

Or see what a brake shop will rebuild it for cash wise

Dp you drive with decent loads over the rear diff?? If not, maybe remove it?

Load Sensing Proportioning Valve. As the weight over the rear diff increase, this valves alters the brake pressures to the rear drums. If you are not carrying any weight, i don't see why it is needed?

I thought it was a limiting valve? If so;
If you dont run it, then you will be having rear brakes lock all the time with no load.
You only have half brake pressure when there is a proportioning valve in place and no load.
With proportioning valve and a load, you have full brake pressure.
With no proportioning valve and no load, you have full brake pressure.
To reco it, it should only be 2 or 3 rubbers and o-rings!
Hilux 4WD and 2WD and Surfs/4runners have the same valve.

You would need to compare the 2. Legaly yes you do need to keep this item. As V6 Hilux stated it is used to increase brake pressure when a load is carried. Without it you will get maximum brake presure to the rear at all times. You do not want this especially in the wet or 4wding down a loose/slippery steep hill.

I fitted it but i'm a mechanic, and yes you will need to bleed your brakes.
