Sorry....Another Bio Diesel question.

Post by Devious »

I have been searching and reading and reading and reading and now my eyes hurt, and I am more confused.

I dont want to make my own diesel, I am wanting to know about bio from the bowser, mainly B100 is 10cpl cheaper than diesel. I know that the bio will clean out the crap from the fuel tank and block everything, so I plan on fitting an extra disposable fuel filter before the main filter to catch the crap and just keep on changing them until all the crap has cleared.

But, I have 2 questions.

1) Has anyone who was run pump bio (EG SAFF B100) had any dramas in their GQ 4.2 diesel, eg pump seals, injectors stuffing up etc.

2) What was power/economy like on bio, if you read the saff site, they claim cleaner emissions (believable), better economy and power. Is that about right in real world terms.

I am sorry if this has been gone over again and again, and i know there are bio forums ETC but I want to hear from 4.2 diesel patrol people with the same engine as me!

Thanks.

I've been running B100 in my GQ TD42 for about 1800 km's now.

It has virtually no particle emissions (smoke) which is good for driving in town.
I changed the fuel filter after 500km's and it was quite dirty, but not clogged up. It looks like running biodiesel has really cleaned my tank and fuel lines.
I haven't had any problems with fuel lines or the pump which was reconditioned approx 2500 km's ago.
Power is the same, but my fuel consumption went up to 15l/100km from around 12 to 12.5. This makes biodiesel more expensive for me to run than normal diesel. I also know of people with starting problems on biodiesel at around the 7 deg mark. With the biodiesel station being 10km from my place, it makes it uneconomical for me to run and I went back to normal diesel.

Hope that helps

Cheers

Thanks for that, thats the sort of info I was after. Mine is averaging 12.5l per 100km also which I worked out this morning when with 400 kms on the odometer it took just under 50l to fill back up, going to 15l per 100 would mean......

400 kms @ 12.5l per 100 = 50l

400 kms @ 15l per 100 = 60l

50l @ 175.9 = $87.95

60l @ 170.9 = $102.54

It really does not make it worth while. Thanks for the info, case closed!

still might be worth checking with local suppliers to see if you can get it delivered cheaper than at the pumps.
