have owned 88 inch 2a for 15 years. it,s grown with the family. Mechanically i have always replaced worn out parts with new ones. this has kept the rover in reasonable condition all round. Currently in truck cab & well back form. off road and carrying capacity suits my needs. Highway running is marginal. with 10.5 x 31 x 15 tyres, std 4.7 diffs and rocky mountain o/drive i get 21mph per 1000 rpm in top gear. Depending on wind, gradient, height above sea level etc, the motor will, in this gear rev out to between 3600 to 4000 rpm (75 to 84 mph) Feul consumption is 16 - 18 mpg or 15.6 - 17.6 l / 100k.

Gear box has had 3 failures in the last 40,000 miles. Currently back to jumping out of 2nd & 3rd on overrun. The car produces 70 hp at the rear wheels on the lie detector.

My thoughts are vt 3.8l v6 147 kw @ 5200rpm 304nm @3600rpm
and automatic to adapt to the series transfer case. Then put in high ratio gearset in the transfer case to give me the same final drive ratio in h2 as present.
I would like to hear from anyone who has done this or has some input that would be useful in my planning stages.
