Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Hi I'm trying to find a 4" suspension lift for 98 coily sierra.

Any help would be great!

It's not like a coily will handle a tyre bigger than a 30 or 31 anyway and SWB's are scary with lotsa lift.

Maybe look for 2" coils and 2" body?? Not sure how youd go in QLD though.
And for the non belivers my mate and I both bought coilys new in 96.
By the end of the year my mate ran 4" custom coils with 30s, then the next year did away with front struts to run 6"springs 3" body and 33s.
Crazy height I know but besides using modded rangie control arms everything was stock and wheeled hard, some may remember a white coily doing a nose stand at nissan trails that was replayed on funniest home videos.

With the coily arms you will have huge dramas with 4" coils, you'll need custom arms. That said 2+2 is fine in Qld, 2" coils will be ok and someone I know sells Body Lifts

2 inch spring 2 inch body you won't run into any probs other than possible bent rear arms if you have crazy long shocks.

And we want to run 33"
on F100 or Wrangler offset Pro Comp Krawler 15x8 rims

Where would I get a suspension lift for one of these, I went to the Dobinsons Springs Factory and they said the don't do anything for the coily!

you can't get a factory 4" lift as the coily suspension design is crap. Do a bit of a search on here as it has been mentioned. Also the 33" tyre is illegal in QLD on a Sierra. You will also have major gearing issues trying to run a 33 which means swapping out the t/case for a leafy one and then installing gearing plus $$$ for stronger axles and cvs.

Why do you want to run a 33?

The car is my little brothers and he wants it to crawl and sit nice and high out of the water in the creeks we drive, Most 33'' tyres are actually 32'' if you work it out in milimeters

It is really to widen the track, because the body is so stiff because of the Rollcage it will make it more stable driving some hill faces Hopefully!

Ok you really really really need to slow down and have a good look through the bible. Seriously you are going about things the wrong way. If you wish to widen the track you need offset rims not tall tyres, although what you want to help climb hills is more wheelbase (which you'll need for tall tyres anyway) and that wouldn't be easy to achieve in a coily I'd imagine.

As said, coily's have their limitations in anything close to stock configuration. If you want to go wild with the mods (and 33's believe it or not are pretty wild for a zook) then it may be easier for a beginner to just buy a leafy and sell the coily.

Might have been a good idea to list exactly what you have and what you want to do straight from the beginning rather then draw it out till now to tell us the real issue and what you want to do.

also note that maxxis tyres are renowned for measuring WAY under!... Simex on the other hand are the opposite - their 31's measure 32... hence you could legally run a simex 31 and still have the same size tyre as a maxxis 33! The govt. dont care about the exact measurement, just the size moulded into the sidewall.

wot u mean legally? and the biggest suspension lift in know of, off the shelf is the king/ultima ones from onestop suzi shop. or ebay and their about 40mm raisded

A) Who cares what size it says on the sidewall, it either fits or it doesn't.

B) Even a 2" lift does more harm than good on a coiler in relation to off road behaviour.

C) Buy a snorkel

E) What does a roll cage have to do with how stable a car is?

F) "Rockcrawling" isn't the same as "posing" You won't want a sierra with 10" of total lift, 22 spline front axles and stock wheelbase for "rockcrawling"

Do some research.

I`ve done a 5 inch kit on a coily in just the suspension alone. the customer had the same probs trying to find a off the shelf kit. so i custom made some front struts rotated the diff for castor new custom coils front and rear etc, etc. If i was to do it again i would do a 4 inch kit but only for serious people. So many people ring up dreaming without money. So if you have a spare $2500 give me a call. cheers

The problem with this forum half the time is someone asks for help or a solution. Then you tell them what has worked in which it does, and then they just want to pick you on everything about it. Anyway until you have done it you can`t come to conclusions...... you`d think.

I guess he means strengthened control arms. Having seen standard coily arms bend even when not abused, some custom arms are almost essiential if you going to mod a coily and drive it hard.

If you already have a 3 inch body lift, why not just look at a 2 inch spring lift and then cut guards/bump stops etc to fit 33's.

I wasn't shit bagging you or your work mate, it's just that it's pretty common knowledge that coily control arms are weak as piss and I've watch a couple of nice coily build up threads and eventually new control arms or at least modified ones are needed.
