Is there any truth to the rumours that the crown and pinion from the new Jimny Sierras drop straight into the older models and offer a better ratio?

Got chatting to a bloke up here on the Gold Coast and he reckons there's an overall 16% reduction... he couldn't tell me any more though...

I thought the 2 available ratios for Jimny's were 4.1 and 4.3.

4.76 would be 16%.

Mmmmm-kay... was hoping I'd found a solution without too much dicking around.

Running 235s on Dilbert at the moment, bogging it down a bit, but tyres are too small to fix with trans' gearing...

I've heard yes. Lower ratios. I believe someone is trying to remove the electric transfer and put in the older manual type. It's meant to be lower ratios. Not sure where the gears are from. The auto or newer type3 vvt. Search jimny.se too

4.09 Manual, 4.3 auto, just like all jimny's, although apparently most auto jimny's run 4.09 too - the 4.3's are apparently very hard to find.

ahh jimnys.......and the lack off ratios available.if you moved the steering to the front you might be able to bolt in a one litre housing stuffed with say some 4.6 lj gears, and use early vit 4.6 in the bum....never tried it....but have taken the measurements. the only thing is you wont be able to run a front locker......thats why i didn't go any further with it.

The Series 1 (with g13bb) and Series 2 (with M13a) both run the same gear ratios. They were spec'd in sales Brouchures to come with 4.090 in autos and 3.9 in Manuals. But Every Manual Diff Ive seen has 4.090 ratios.

The New Series 3 Jimny has 4.3 ratios in Manual and 4.090 ratios in Auto's.
What does this mean? The first person to pull down and count the teeth on there New Jimny Manual and Auto's Can only tell us what Suzuki has install for us in the great Jimny Diff ratio Lucky dipp!

There are ratios avaliable from APIO for a small fortune if all else fails.

Looks like this needs a little more digging...

What are the ratios on offer at APIO? I can never find anythng on that site

I'm not keen to go bigger as far as rubber goes... I'm happy where things are with a 2+2 and 235s. I'm up at the Gold Coast at the moment and had a brilliant run up here in Dilbert... except for gale force crosswinds on the top of the mountains at the back of Byron' made for some interesting moments!

apio does a transfer gear too. low range only. 3.5:1 great on 30's but costly.

I think that you'll find that APIO's R&P's are no good for the local Jimny as I think they are made for a smaller 1.0 style diff used in the 660cc Jimny and they are over 6.1:1.

Wow 6.1:1... the gear teeth must look like a comb :?
