problem with auto front hubs

gday
bought a 93 4runner the other day and all was good untill i took it in the sand today and the bloody thing wouldnt engage 4x4.
is this a common problem with these cars and what could be the possible causes/remedies.

Just to straighten you out on the facts; You have full time (solid) front hubs.
OK, The ADD system is possibly faulty. It is very common and there is an electric shift actuator motor on the rear of your transfer case. Corrosion is what usually stops the motor. It needs to be removed and cleaned/lubed and it will probably work again.
Next thing could be the vac lines that go from the dual solenoid behind the fuse box in engine bay, check they are switching the vac over. Swapping the tubes can get you out of trouble. Select 4WD and look at the front shaft. If it is turning as you move, then this may be the issue.
Failing those things, if you can understand the ADD elec diagrams;

I forgot to mention the 10amp Gauge fuse.
