 You need engineering approval, and it need to be done properly. If is a major job to cut a body up properly and retain its rigidity.

Build a hardtop for your Ute back and be done with it. At least you will have some weatherproof storage space plus the tray feature...would be a lot easier and legal than chopping the body off....

yeh, i have an opinion. i've done the swb ute chop and if i had another swb soft top i would make a partiton/ rear wall and roof section. i think you would be able to do a tidy job with fairly low effort. my approach would be to use some fairly thin marine ply for the rear wall and use a front windscreen for a rear window (easier to come by than a factory rear window) give the ply a good thick coat of sealer then paint it the same colour as the rest of the car. use some sort of goop to glue it in place. liquid nails or eurothane type stuff.the roof section would have to be folded out of sheet steel or alloy checker plate maybe?

i was thinking about it and wouldnt it be easier and look better to get a hardtop rear door and just bang that in there? thats what im planning on doing
