Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Hey guys just looking at my front diff housing while screwing around with the rear suspension and it looks like the limiting factor to move my front diff further forward is the length of the pitman arm. If this can be shortened then its possible to move the diff further than an inch forward without the draglink rubbing...

I read that Christover mentioned that the vitara pitman arm is shorter than the sierra one. Are they interchangable on the non PS box?

if it is i would think it would be harder to turn the wheels
i would go a hi steer knuckle

Ive got beefy forearms haha. didn't think of that...hmm...may do PS while I am at it. I already have the pump that comes with the 4age....

Shorter pitman arm will make steering easier but you will lose a bit of lock to lock. Shorterning the steering arm on the diff will make steering harder but give you more lock.

Vit pitman is a diff spline to the sierra pitman. So out of luck there unfortunately.

how drastic would the loss of lock would be rhett?

the vitara pitman arm is a 42 spline and the sierra is a 36 spline if i remember correctly so no luck there. also the vitara pitman has less 'drop' than a sierras and might even have a different tapered end for the tie-rod?? although im not sure on that last one

Nah the TRE taper is fine. Its the spline size and as you said not as much drop (more bump steer)

I was looking at this too when moving my diff forward. I only moved it about an inch but I spaced the tie rod (I think thats what it's called lol) and drag link apart with copper washers, gained about 10mm space and still have the locking nut and split pin in place. In hindsight I could have got away with about 30-35mm forward movement I think.

Yeah thats what I am looking at doing when I throw my rear springs in the front. AFTER I get the car back on the road It would allow a little bit more clearance on compression.
