As most would know I sold my last hilux http://www.outerlimits4x4.com/ftopic81231.php now it has time to build another I need a ute so I have been racking my brain for a the last few months over what I want to build and have came to a conclusion some what. This one will have to be a daily driver like the last one was ment to be.

Now my question to you all is if you could start again, or your first lux how would you go about it?

(This will be lux #7  )

what is it with the QLD crew and the 2.7 motor?
are they that good, or are they sitting in dumps up there?
or, is it for legalities??
whats the story? i know scotty loves to sit his on the limiter.
but im just wondering why, seems a pattern, BB, 83gh3y,bubs & probably more?

Its a cheap, reliable motor with good low down torque and on top that is pretty damn strong. My mate is getting one built to run in his drag car at anywhere between 1000-1500HP, which is what they are getting from them in the states as well.

Why the chromo gear for a daily driver on small wheels??

As for the choice, I reckon the 85 is the best.. But then again your last one was a nice piece of lux.

Twon, just coz you got yourself a V8 doesn't mean it's the be end and end all. I mean you say scotty rev's the bejebus out of it, but thats just his style. BeeBee on the other hand has a much more controlled approach. No lie, i think it works for him as well. Not getting up ya, but you seem to say the same thing in every thread regarding motor choice. I know the zuk guys use a smaller motor because of the weight associated, maybe the same case.. Or legality in QLD

leaf springs work, it is a daily driver not a comp truck.

just a good reliable cheep motor with decent economy. if you do the work your self you can have the conversion done for under $2000

84-88 Xtra cab, tub, on 80 series chassis/ diffs. 3rz to 100 series r box and transfer or bundera r box and t/c (these are pretty cheap). Although if the budget streched a little further... turbo... or 2jzte.

And there's usually not enough power to break too much stuff (like gearboxes, transfer inputs etc)

I'd think you'd probably loose too much horsepower with a standard 3rz.

Bubs,
That sounds like a lot of work for not much gain! All you're getting is a hilux that might have been cool 10 years ago - talk about last year's tech!

As far as I see it, you're missing the following - bling axles, decent transfer case, horse power, auto and decent suspension. Other than that, the plan sounds cool :D

At least put a 4 link in the rear.... :bad-words:

And what BEEBEE said ! Otherwise might as well by a stock hilux new from toyota. If you know what lux you wanna build already why ask everyone for their opinion?

the original question was what would you build for your self.

I just put up what I plan on building, beebee said it well, old school.

He clearly asks what they would build.
