Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Been driving up Parramatta Rd a bit lately for work during peak hour and wondered... Can a TroopCarrier LEGALLY drive in a bus lane?

My understanding is that a vehicle of 8 seats or more is classified as a bus.

The compliance plate on my rig (originally 12seat) doesn't state seating capacity but only has two seats in it at the moment. Although the plate clearly says BUS.

Am I just asking for trouble or should I be able to get away with driving in a bus lane?
Anyone had any dramas with this?

i vote use the bus lane.


i use it because i have always called my 4wd a bus

One problem is if you do get pulled over they'll dick you for not having the correct number of seats in your car - and probably also for driving in a bus lane

I thought it was vehicles over 12 seats or more became classed as buses hence why the LR truck licence 12 or more seats and up to 8tonne

I say dont be so selfish and wait like everyone else. What if everyone decided to do it, then the whole thing will be f0&*$$ed up more than it already is with people then trying to merge back in or whatever.

No, there would be troopys everywhere - just like heaven!

My mates troopy is registered as a bus, shows on the rego label as such, but he's never been game enough to test it out.

There are so many way of being caught, but if your rego states bus, like my old L300 did, then you have grounds to use it...but ont take our word for it, ask the RTA and get their name and time you called aswell....you will most probably need it...because you will be road raged if your not pinged.

My old troopie had bus on the rego label and i drove it in the bus lanes every day, parked in bus zones, used bus areas... It was an actual tour bus, too!

technically for a vehicle to travel in a bus lane it muct be registered with MO / MOT plates although coaches / charted busses with TV plates get away with it, the only exceptiong is when it is signposted to allow other vehicles, authourised vehicles generally means hire cars (limos TV plates not the carolla from hertz ) taxis, emergency services and motorbikes, you will alos find bus lanes with taxi excepted signs, means bus and taxi only.

the tways are worse, must have tway sign and supposed to be MOT plates ON ROUTE ONLY, ie not supposed to run special or charter runs on them

Just remembered our outdoor ed teachers used to drive the troopy down the bus lanes on the eastern

Ahh, memories. Good times were had being flung around in the back of that troopy (11 seater)

Yeah I meant to say 11 seater.

I might wait until I have full points again. With only 1 point and waiting for a court date over losing 4, probably not the best time to try it out. If I got pulled over for it he didn't fine me for that he'd find something else to f#@k me over with
