Mechanical/Vacuum advance dizzy ---> full electronic dizz

Post by Santos »

A while back i got an intake, throttle body and dizzy from a 8v Geo tracker from the states.

The dizzy has 3 pins and no vacuum advance so i am guessing it is a full electronic unit. I am thinking of putting it in along with a jaycar programable electronic ignition, no more eractic idles and dual ignition curves to suit higher octanes (like 98ron/ e85/lpg)

Given that dizzy, alternators and starters are manufactured by denso, aisin and the like, does anyone know if there are compatible ignition systems from other 4 cyl cars that i can use? (prefarably something that can take a HEI coil)

I'd rather not build an orphan system that requires spares to be shipped from the states

not yet

the new jaycar kit is a stand alone ignition module, i bought the silicon chip magazines and it talks about locking the mechanical advance, it also needs a Map sensors and hooks to the rpm.

So do i need computer controlled advanced or fully electronic system to cannabilize?

The Silicon Chip ( Jaycar ) kit is a good unit and if assembled, and wired professionally will do an excellent job.

If you have some stock timing curves for the motor or similar you will save some effort.

Being 3 pin sounds like its Hall effect..... but don't know the engine so its a guess.
( usual disclaimers )

It seemed like a much better idea when I started it than it does now.
