03 Hilux 3ltr TD Problem

Hey Guys,
I had a search, but could find the info I was after...
I'm concerned about Fuel consumption - these are the only mods that would affect fuel:
2003 3ltr Turbo Diesel Hilux with:
- 75000klms on the clock
- 1 1/2" OME Lift
- 31" Bridgstone AT's
- Front & Rear Air Lockers
- Extra weight with Winch Bar/Winch/Scrub Bars/Steps/Rear Bar
I Bought the truck and all the gear went straight on, so I don't know what the economy was before hand.
ATM I get about 400-450 klms per 66ltr tank around town. Does this sound right? Or do the injectors sound a bit sad???
It gets new filters etc... so I know it's not something as simple as that...
Cheers
Matt

i have the exact same car mate.
i get around the 530 mark with fuel with mixed highway and town and i sometimes get up it ...
if i was in your position i would be worried too.
i would agree on maybe gettin new injectors or gettin them flushed . maybe at the same time do a major service with oil and all your filters and see what happens if theres no difference i would chat to your mechanic or toyota cos i'm outa ideas

Well that's what I started to think about after reading some threads about other lux motors etc...
I have done a major service @ 70 klicks and no change in consumption...
So

if I know...

What's your driving style like?
I used to get around 420kms per 58L fillup (of a 66L tank) in my 03 2.8 non-turbo Hilux. It's all city driving over here with frequent stops and starts. I recently adjusted my driving style to a lot slower acceleration and shift at 2000rpm and now I'm getting about 520Kms for the same 58L. Corrected for my 32" tires I used to get around 460kms with my old driving style and now around 570kms with my less aggressive style now.
I know someone with an 04 3.0 TD Lux that gets around 320Kms per fillup on 33's but he has a really aggressive driving style.

I get about 450km to a tank and that a bit of mixed driving fairly spirited though. Mine has always been about the same ever since i bought it new. Its got 180,000 km on it now.

I suppose i'm no miss daisy... But i don't hammer it.
Interesting about what Zeyphly said... Perhaps wth a little "Spirited" driving that's what they'll give you.
I might do an experiment dirving how Spongerx says and see how that goes...

have you had it since new??
if you bought it second hand it might have a dpchip in it or "performance chip" you dont know about and the its on a different setting. you can switch them from 0 to 9 and if its on a "more power" setting rather than an economy mode that could also make a difference.
if you dont know i am pretty sure it connects to the factory computer of the car and you would know if you saw it... i think they are about 5cm by 7cm rectangle

A couple of times while doing a hwy trip driving with a mate in a 04 bravo td who had cruise control set on 105kmh i was getting pretty close to 10.5 - 11 litres to the km, that was with a little bit of gear in the tub for a weekend away. That was from kalgoorlie to perth so not much in the way of hills or anything just cruising along.

I wouldn't worry to much.
That's what they get with extra weight and up size in tyres.
The 1kz-te is not as good on fuel as some may say.
I reckon you would be doing great if 550KM is acheived on a standard
vehicle (Dual Cab 66liters)

Has the turbo been dyno tuned, is it properly set up?
With those 5L motors, the fuel compensator is adjusted by a fitting on the top of the injector pump, that has a rubber diaphragm in it.
Often fuel burn issues can be related to wear, leaks in this item.

I've only had it for about 9 months
No Chip, and I've never had it dyno tuned so I might look at that, or take it to a desiel specialist to have a once over
Thanks very much for your info guys...

Is it a 1kz-te or a 5L or 5LE with an aftermarket turbo?
I haven't been too impressed with the fuel figures the guys I know with 1kz-te's get around here. The new Hilux D4D 2.5's and 3.0's are way better on fuel.

It's a 1kz-te factory. My brother has a D4D and he is getting WAY better economy...
It just had a servcie today and had the fuel filter changed again. I'm taking her for a run up to Mackay this week, so I'll see how she goes on the highway
