dont buy from newcomdigi on ebay. (sells HIDs and other things)
he tried to charge me extra fees once i had paid the total amount and wouldnt send my item.
finally got it and left bad feedback and he paid a mediator to sort out the issue between us
so newcomdigi is a PITA and avoid him

Sure they gave you 6000k? Mine are e little too far on the blue side (35w)
I put bushy's 50w ballasts on the chinese 35w 6000k bulbs and now they are white with a tinge of yellow, so around 4300k.

I reckon the 6000k's are a little too blue as well. I think I'd go for a 5000k next time. Cheap chinese 35w 6000k H1 HID's (in Cibie Super Oscars, and Cibie Oscars), next to 55/60w Philips halogen headlights:

ebay chinese hids?
well, yes and no... yes because i have bought a set and they work well... and no, because if they dont work, you will have to buy yourself another one, still ends being cheaper anyway.
and what has already being mentioned, get 4300/5000k... next step higher (6000k) and the colour temp turns blueish.
these are 6000k

Both times I've bought the cheapest ones I could find (so there was less to lose if all went pear shaped). They turned up within a week.
The H4's came with a good relay loom and work well. Its hard to get the balance between a high beam which is high enough and a low beam which doesnt dazzle. Whether its a quality issue or an issue with my reflector design, I dont know. Inserts for the spots are next.

I have ebay Hi/Lo H4. Mine use a magnet or similar mounted behind the globe. And it just changes the focal point in the lens. It dosent move much.

A warning, I have 3 mates who bought the sliding H4's of ebay, they all flucked up in under 2 months, 1 seller accepted the return and offered cash back then once he got em he sent another set out and refused to cash back...same guy listed above it was. So personally in spotties i reckon they'd.
be worth a shot but not in your primary lighting.
My mates are all back to Halogens inside there IPF inserts and happy again because there high beams are not stuck on.

Bushy's ramblings:
> how do ebay high/low bulbs work? i know there is some sort
> of mechanism that moves inside the bulb, but what moves
> and how?
There are three types of moving mechanisms that I know of.
1) Moving bubl in and out, conencted to the solenoid. Personally I reckon this would suck, since the amount of *shock* that is giving the bulb is heaps. Unfortunately tihs is in the few H4 kits that I had. One left in stock. Didn't know until I got them here.
Anyway, had some chinese chick try to tell me the other day 'good product, sliding bulb best. sliding shield no good. All fail. Our product not once fail. 2 dollar sucky sucky?'
2) Moving / sliding sheild - connected to solenoid. Prolly the best I reckon. The moving metal sheild creates the high and low beam - light pattern cut off points. Is what I chucked into my ute nearly four years ago, and so far have not needed to touch them. Cheap chinese crap back then and still works.
3) Tilting bulb - the bulb tilts from standard horizontal position to that of around 15 to 20 degrees which creates the lo and high beam pattern. Again, moving bulb --- shock factor --- not real good in my opionion.
As for the original question. Are cheap chinese kits worth it?
Welp, I have now dealt with 12 different chinese manufacturers. Some are good and some are just plain dodgy, as in, no quality control what so ever. As in dead ballasts leaving their factory...
At the moment, some dude is floggin $110.00 "50/55 watt" kits delivered.
I have bought one, and if it arives, and after I have a fiddle, will let everyone know. But how true is the 55 watt markings? Only a multimeter and a light meter can tell that.
On one hand:
If, for $110.00, you buy a kit and it arrives.
And if it works for 12 months and then dies....
Throw it out and grab another.
But on the other hand, if it doesnt arrive and if it doesnt work out of the box, then you've just done $110 which would have gone 15 kilometres in diesel money. (Diesel hit $1.96 south of Tamworth today)
I'm now up to around about the 120 odd kits that I've bought, played with, sold etc. Remember, I only do the HID thing as a lounge-room floor hobby. In all that time, all bar about 10 to 15 have been some sort of chinese origin. I have had a total feedback from customers of 8 ballasts that have died and two bulbs. Six of those ballasts were in the first batch of 20 that I bought, so from that some one could say that some of the manufacturers quality have improved a bit as time has gone on....

Are they difficult to wire up. I took off my PIAA large spotties when I removed the front bull bar. The standard 3 prong female plugs are still sitting there flush with the grille. The lights were fitted with H4's and the owner had a dipping switch also incorporated into the loom.
The wiring loom has relays as the wiring was upgraded by the first owner. Can the HID kits be fitted easily with a male 3 point plug and just hook up to the female plug or is it a whole new approach.
