Who owns a 100% off road 4x4?(e.g. rock crawler, tube buggy 4x4 or an unregistable 4x4 due to modifications)
Where can you legally use the 4x4 other than 4x4 comps and private property?
Does anyone own 100% off road 4x4 for just 4x4ing and doesn't compete in comps?
Where is best place to look for second hand crawlers/ tube buggies?

well if its not registered then private property will be the only place you can drive it... have a look in the for sale section.. theres some in there from time to time

Pretty much any small 80's hatchback with big van tyres and relived of unnessecary weight and panels could do well offroad
Look at the Top Gear Africa special for example
(if you MUST drive though a boulder rather than around it then you may need more)

QLD transport make some exemptions to vehicles who have a legitamate reason for needing to be on the road, ie, all terrain cranes, backhoes, etc. They are never going to give special dispensation so ythat you can go over and use it on frazer. Never in a million years.

i've heard of people getting dirtbikes recreational rego so they could ride in state forests etc. but when i went to my local DOT they said i couldn't..

Rec Reg is common for dirt bikes in Vic, but it's not available for anything other than bikes.

recreational vehicle reg is avail for just about anything in tas. we have an old VW beetle on 33s with RV rego, we can take it on any roads in nat parks that the 4wds can go on, and we can nominate pupblic roads to drive it on if we cant get the trailer as close to the track as we would like...

It is not very hard to actually get the rego plate. It is almost impossible to get it legitamately.

There are at least 2 cars getting around the gold coast on conditional rego probably classed as rally vehicles(celica GT4 (import) and a lancer(looked like an import)), neither even come close to complying with the conditions of thier registration.

looked into it a while back. rec rego is not any use in QLD as you are only allowed in 3 state forests miles away. A few trials bikes in the club were registered this way.

I have just read the conditional vehicle section quickly. It appears it is possible to register a buggy - giving all 3rd party insurance benefits. It allows for golf buggy rego too!

I may have assumed too much on this. When we were up there someone else said there was a Buggy getting around up there with conditional rego. I only caught a glimps of it once and from memory yes it was orange. I didnt speak to the guy. I assumed it was the guy from Townsville that has successfully registered a buggy based on i beleive a Cheezy tube frame.

It may be a different guy. The one in Townsville is registered as a offroad utility vehicle i beleive.

I have seen heaps of Queenland comp trucks running 37s and they have rego. I am sure QLD comp trucks have recreation rego but will have a definate answer tomorrow.

just get it rego'd before you do the mods dont go driving past any police cars though

What do you think we do now? It's not the cops you have to really worry about, they're too busy picking on the poor little ricer brigade down the local haunts. The Transport goons are the ones that sting us, but still up here at least we get it fairly easy.

Sim I think you'll find most of those comp trucks sporting 37's are very similar, just running the gauntlet.

Registered and Road Worthy are two totally different things.

you can regeter anything as long as you know somone willing to take the risk may cost you more than $31.50 for it though

I found out today that comp trucks in Queensland are registered as a competition vehicle which gives then limited road access, this sound the same as a recreational rego but its not.

Really?? I dont know a single competitor other than the one i mentioned above(who i dont think has ever competed anywhere anyway) that has anything other than normal rego. I have never heard of "comp rego" before.

He is on drugs. There is no such thing as Comp Rego. He may have used some other form of rego that he prob shouldnt have legaly used but there is defianatly no such thing as comp rego in QLD.
