Outer Limits 4x4 Board

I have been having problems with the rover lately, with excelerater at half throtle on the open road there is no power, i can park the vehicle and rev it to full range but as soon as i start driving i lose power past 3rd gear, can anyone help

Rover? Range rover classic, Land rover, Discovery, Defender, county, stage 1, series, Labrador, kelpie..............................

3.5, 3.9. 4.0, 4.4, 4.6 200tdi, 300tdi, 4bd1......................

When was the fuel filter changed? plugs leads etc?

If you ring it in first and second, does it die then?

Does it cough and splutter or just run out of power?

Fuel filter? Had something similar on different vehicle that was carby, did 80 but couldn't get the fuel to go faster. And also this week on my EFI on, but it wouldn'r rev over 1000rpm or do more than 4kmh...

can give it shit in first and second but when you get to third and put thre foot down past 1/2 there is nothing there. just put new plugs in today leads arent that old and fule filter looks pretty good as well, will replace filter tommorow and see what happens

Youd didn;t answer the rest? fuel filter etc, nobody can help if you just say "my car don't go good why"

no there is no cough and splutter it just losses power when you go past 1/2 way on the pedal, when you bring it back a bit it's fine, but you are only doing 5km.

I would be suggesting the float valves might be clogged not allowing enough fuel to flow in to the bowls?

Doesn't sound like anything to do with ignition if you ask me, if it was it would start to cough and splutter.

unless it isn't a smooth loss of power (or quite simply no change between part throttle and full throttle) then I say fuel.

Sometimes a way to clear the problem on the stromberg carburettors is to take off the elbows so you can see down both of the carburettors. Rev the engine to 2000rpm get someone to hold it at that throttle setting and then cover both the carburettor inlets with your hands.

Hold them there for about a second and then release to prevent the engine from stopping. Do it 2 or 3 times.

What this does is causes a large amount of fuel to be pulled from the bowls and hopefully suck out whatever is causing a blockage... If this doesn't fix it you are going to have to pull the carbs apart and do it the old fashioned way.

They fall to bits after a few years !!
Just unbolt the four screws on the top and have a look ??
