My 2005 Patrol ute now has a problem with sub tank, I first noticed that the light in switch didnt come on. Not long after the warning light come on, I reset it by disconnecting battery but this only kept the warning light off for a short period. I am only gettting 4.6 volts at the pump. Both gauges are working fine. I also fitted an earth strap from chassis to body. No change ..
Any tips ??
Thanks

hey mate,
just went through the wiring diagram in my gu service manual, found the fuse linked to the sub tank and pulled that fuse out of my fuse panel, the sub warning lamp came on but the light in the sub switch stayed on.
I'm guessing you have a blown bulb in the switch and more than likely a blown sub tank fuse.
sub fuse is lower left in the fuse panel near right hand kick panel under dash.
hope this helps dick,
cheers

just having a bit more of a look at the diagram and the bulb is connected to a bulb check relay which could be bringing up the sub warning light.
i'd say see how it goes after you replace the bulb.
as for the manual mine is just a gregory's manual no:519 gu series diesel 1998 - sept 2004. but most of it is the same for the 05 and my 06 patrol.
i picked mine up from supercheap.

Thanks for that, I have been checking some more and all bulbs ok, pump ok, connectors all ok, switch ok... still no go ... Nissan test sequence for controller all ok ....
I have decided to remove the controller (dont feel like shelling out 540 bucks for a new one) and manually operate the sub tank via a switch on dash. Probably the aerial up down lock switch, as that is useless as well! Pump works fine when hot wiring.. cant see much of an issue doing this, as the gauges will tell me whats going on.. Its not like you need to do it every day either. If that does not work out I will do like Toyos do and fit a solenoid operated switching device for each tank... I must admit that makes a lot of sense rather than moving all that fuel .. ;)

Funny - Have heard a coupla Toyota blokes say that the Nissan way of moving fuel from the sub to the main is a better method.

have you added any news accessories or a turbo timer?

there has been some topics on this and that it is caused by a bad earth.

eg: the sub tank wiring is the path of least resistance for your new accessory - quick fix is to disconnect the battery

Other fix would be to run the gnd for the new gear back to the battery and see how that goes

No new accessories at all, it just stopped working ! fitted extra earth from chassis to body, checked continuity of all connectors, pulled switch apart and checked it - all good, tests appear to point o ECU for sub tank. I was not going to pay 540 for a new one so took the two wires up to front console and wired to new switch with a light in it. If I cant control the amount of fuel I want to transfer then I shouldnt be driving ! Pump works fine...

How long did you disconnect the battery for? This issue has surfaced a few times on various forums and it seems the battery needs to be disconnected for about 30 minutes or so by all reports.
