LS2 VS LS1 Computer

Post by bru21 »

I received my wiring loom for my Ls2 today.

The plug is very different to the LS1 is this correct??

I wanted to run a LS1 computer as I am getting rid of the throttle by wire.

I'm wondering if I should send it back to Holden and get a Ls1 loom.

Its a 297kw VE Ls2 crate motor. Throttle by wire

If you jump onto http://www.ls1.com.au
The guys on there would be able to give some answers, or on the site, click on sponsors, look for one in QLD,, (there is a few) and give them a ring.

There might also be a few guys/companies that could help at the site in my sig line just a thought..

There a few guys that are into tuning and might be able to get rid of the fly by wire for you so you can use the ls2 loom...

You need to be more specific, the L98 and L76 VE Gen 4 motors are not compatible with the LS1 PCM. The crank and cam triggers are different and specifice to the engines, the number of teeth on the crank trigger wheel and cam wheel are different and specific to the computer. I think from memory 24 teeth versus 52 teeth on the crank and 1 versus 4 on the cam. To run the LS1 ECU you need to tear the engine down and swap crank and cam triggers for LS1 types.
The E38 and E40 ECU's are tuneable(later type), I have done a number of comp trucks with them. The fly by wire is built into the ECU so you are stuck with it though.
Mid 2005 the LS2 changed from one trigger style to the other so they can use one or the other ECU depending on the build date.
The crank pickup I think (been a while) is grey if it is the later style and black if the early one.

I'll have to have a look tomorrow. part number off crate is 12592360

Its an LS2 (has 243 on the heads) which is different from the l98/l76 i beleive.

I was told the ls2 loom and ls1 computer would work by power torque in brendale.

are the ecu connectors different between ls2 / ls1

the loom I have, has short and fat connectors??? I haven't seen these before

cheers and thanks

Short fat connectore are from the E38 or E40 ECU, you have a post 2005 LS2, it will not run with the LS1/LS2 PCM.

Thanks mate I researched it today. There is no way i'm pulling a brand new motor apart to change the reluctor and cam sensor as it will never be the same. so - throttle by wire it is. Thanks for your help. here is the info i got. I net searched and found
http://www.sideshowsperformancewiring.c ... egoryid=12

sent an email and this is what I got:

****

Hi Justin,

As per phone conversation

Loom supplied by you

· We would modify your loom supply relays and fuses, IAT plug and sensor (to run mafless), diagnostic plug, all the wires to run Fuel pump, MIL, Fans, Oil pressure, Water Temp - $###
· Accelerator pedal (no pad) - $100.00

· We can supply an ECU with Mafless tune and vats removed with fans setup - $###

Also the tacho may need different tacho boosters depending on the type of tacho gauge you use.

If you still want to go the Cable route we can supply all the parts needed for the change , all you need is to have the reluctor/cam gears changed.

Parts include

· PCM

· Loom modified with correct Injector plugs, Map plug length, Cam plug length and modified, and Knock sensor length and relays, fuses

· Knock Sensors

· 24x Reluctor wheel

· 1x Cam gear and bolts

· 90mm Throttle Body

Any way either way the choise is yours

Regards

Justin

You want to get it tuned on a dyno, the exhaust and intake will change the tune from any off the shelf tune. Not to mention if you don't have a VSS then there is modification to be done so it dosen't stall going into gear from park/neutral.
I did one for this years outback for a customer running a manualized 4l80e without a vss and had to do some custom tuning for optimum performance.
Also this vehicle would not run with the tune supplied, it was necessary to flash a different callibration in as the throttle control was incompatible, the throttle wouldn't open beyond 8%.
It was actually the E40 ecu that came with the post 2005 LS2.
