Hi guys, i am thinking of putting 33s but not sure about whether my 3b diesel has enough power to run them!will aftermarket extractors and an exhaust pipe work or do i need to turbo it!has anyone turboed at 3b before?is there any internals that need to be done or any extra mods in order to keep the car cool? Also is it worth it?How much does it cost?

Thanks

you will be fine with 33's.. if maybe a little slower .. it does ok.. i sometimes get to use 5th downhills or only briefly on flat straights..

your options are:
- get a snorkle so it breathes better
- get extractors so it can expel the exhaust better (never had a stock exhaust so can't say if there is a performance diff with extractors)
- turn up the fuel screw (dangerous without a PYRO and comes with the expense of reliability and engine life)
- service your injectors (i found the 40 was a lot perkier after that)
- spend $2-4k on an off the shelf turbo from ATX, Denco or Turboglide
- flip your stock exhaust manifold find a turbo from a 2L petrol engine and wak it on for about $1k

give it a go as it is with 33's ..you should be ok. I have run my 33 JT2's over 1000kms on one trip with no problems (a week long fraser island trip).. just need a bigger run up for some of those hills.. and dont even consider trying to overtake.. I found I couldn't use 2nd low as much offroading with 33's as I did with 31's.

I have twin snorkles, extractors and 2 and half inch exhaust with straight through muffler and 32inch tyres and have no probs with power. Even use fifth gear. With 33's, I reckon you would use fourth gear more but would have enough power to cruise at 100km/hr.

i have a 3b in a lux and found with 35's, it was severely lacking. turbo made a huge difference. the turbo will make the car far more pleasurable to drive both on and off road. if you can afford it, go the turbo.

I believe the std tank is 85L (according to the factory manual of a BJ42 LX) and I get about 600kms out of 70lts of diesel.
