Hi,
My 1st post on this forum so please pardon me if I screwup. I am thinking about buying some spare pre'79 rear full floating FJ40 shafts and have them ship to California, USA. I plan to buy them from 4x4parts.com.au, has one done bussiness with them? Any other sources in Aussie? The price is good but not sure about shipping cost yet.
Thanks very much.

Same weight but here in US FJ40s did not come with full floating axles so they are very hard to find spare for.

By 'light on the ground', he was refering to be scarce or not all that common
So you answered his question anyway

How much are you paying for them?
To my knowledge all full floating axles are the same in 40 and 75s up until 1989
Ive got a couple I'd sell to you.

Sorry to kind of hi-jack, but depending on price, I could use a set for a 60 series with electric locker (so long splined short side). I could also use a spare front inner long side with the long splines for the electric locker.
And BJonroids, are you sure about your info? All the info I have ever seen is that there was changes in the FF rears in 1980... 'Course I am in the states...

The housing itself changed in 1980.
The axles themselves never changed, the 60 is 85mm longer than the 40/75 etc.
The factory E-locker ones would be hard to come across down here, despite the E-locker being an option most of our farmers and stuff dont know what a locker is, let alone want to pay $1500 extra for it, when most of them wont pay for aircon! I would not worry about a spare rear, there is someone making them over there, I remember seeing a guy getting some. Fronts too from memory, custom too, so hopefully better treating, better materials.
Just for stock ones though, it might be worth while.

Got it--thanks. Ya, there's been some guys over here that've had front shafts made with the long splines to suit the e-lockers, but no rear ones yet. Though there also was talk of having custom axles made for the FF rear that were splined on each end and then just use drive-plates from the 80 series front with 'em...not sure if anybody's actually done it, but that could get pricey. I had to just buy mine from the dealer. Granted, it was a pretty good price, but it took quite a bit of work to find a US dealer that could/would order the shaft for me.
Anyway, I was just checkin' to see if they could be found down there used for cheap. I could still use a spare long side rear to suit an FJ60 ff rear if it could be had for a good deal and shipping wasn't too steep...
