Could be several different things..
Start by ruling out the silly things like stuck choke, a sticky accelerator cable and a leaky inlet gasket.
Let us know how you go and we'll find the answer.

Robbo,
WTF is that IN ENGLISH ?
I realise you might be tired/in a hurry/fat fingers that get two keys at once..... but please take 2 seconds to see if you can read what you just typed... It makes it SOOO much easier to get answers if people can read and understand the questions.

High idle - try checking the vacuum hoses are all on and not leaking. Incorrect timing can be the culprit too. Rememember a carby rebuild wont fix any of these unless its a gasket.

As for the car still trying to run after cutting the ignition I think the guys on here said that it can be caused by a carbon build up in the engine. But now I think of it maybe that is another indicator of advanced timing?

hmm i inspecte dmy carby tonite, and the small flap at the otp of the air intake barrel is loose as te spring has deformed, i am presuming this is the choke?
when i started the car with this closed it idled fine, but while driving it didnt sound right?
i think ill ring a coupl eof garages tomorrrow and find out abput a rpelacment carby or a tune up
