yes they will handle the power in an lj
the extra weight of the sierra may not help the longevity of an lj transfer if thats what your putting it into.
Al Duncan used to run in comps and still drives his green lj kermit, with a gti motor, 5 speed and lj transfer, if you've ever seen him drive then you realise they are pretty strong.
get a copy of first tuff truck, or some of the winch challenge vids from a few years ago.
the lj50 boxes are slghtly lower ratio than the lj80
I had both and spun them they are different
still have an lj50, but not keen to part with it!

is this to incorportate it into the sierra case .. so you can do a dual transfer case?

yeh . will be for ues in a twin transfer setup. looking at the posibility of replaceing the jackshaft with the LJ transfer. Its only an idea at the moment.

I have looked into this, as I have an LJ50 case in the shed.
if you want to do this, buy a LWB and get ready for LOTS of fab work and some giant tyres.
The LJ case is tiny and that's great - It will fit in the tunnel of the sierra, however, it's configured like a sierra transfer, that is, the input is about 200mm above the outputs. the jackshaft would have some uber funky angles on it to sort this out and keep the sierra transfer in the stock spot.
An option would be to lay the LJ transfer horizontal and the clock the sierra transfer more vertical. This would keep the sierra outputs in the stock spot and allow the angles to (sort of) work out, but this would put the LJ transfer and the top of the sierra transfer through the floor of the car and under the driver. I don't think there's room.
Of course you could mount the LJ transfer waaaay back above the rear axle on a long jackshaft, then drive out of the front output of the LJ case, into the sierra case turned around, then the front output of the sierra case would be driving the rear diff and vice versa. You'd then need a TT disconnect to get 2WD and you'd have to turn the diffs upside down.
this would get you FWD, RWD, 4WD and all the ranges HOWEVER, the gearing would be screwy.
LJ50 high range is 1.714
, Multiplied by a stock 1.3 transfer that gives you a 2.41:1
HIGH Range, good for the highway so long as have 50" tyres... D
Low range though, only comes out at 6.6:1 with a 1.3/lj50 case combo. doesn't seem worth it to me.

Looked at it a bit more yesterday with a mate and we came to the same fab problems ya mentioned. Like i said it was just an idea we were tossing about.
Whats the low range ratio in the LJ cases?

3.01 or so.
They also have whacky little cast yokes 1.0 size, but rectangular so they can't be redrilled. they mount flat on the bottom from memory. they're so tiny- the front output dog teeth etc are really small.
