Supercharging a Commodore V6

I have a Commodore VP/VR V6 in my Lux and I want more power
A bloke I know has a complete Supercharger setup off a Mustang 3.8 for sale.
It has a near new Eaton M90 charger, a heap of ally piping, an intercooler, throttle body, pulleys, belts, tensioner etc.
He only wants $700 for the lot and it looks like a bloody good buy.

Question is how much farken around am I going to have to do to fit it?
Will I need bigger injectors? bigger fuel pump? bigger MAP sensor? rising rate fuel reg?
Would I be better getting a dyno chip retune after I fit it or getting a programable aftermarket computer?
Paul.

to much stuffing around just get a raptor supercharger. You will need a tune after install

I know someone who has a full supercharged 6 bottom end for sale which has alot stonger internals and better compression ratio to cope with boost. PM me for details ;)

The v6 with the eaton M90 on it was introduced late in the VS range, in the calais only. Then it was an option all the way till the alloy tec motors came out. Auto was the only factory trans option though.

VS and VT did, too - all Ectotec V6's. As pointed out, the internals are different to the NA.

More relevant, though - the VN (series 2) -VR 3800 V6's came supercharged in the US, maybe it would be possible to source some parts from there. Those are called the Series 2 V6, different from the series 1 (only came in the VN series 1 here); ecotecs are series 3.

-edit- Layto beat me to it.

I've seen the standard charger 2nd hand for $600. Problem is that you need to have all the plumbing etc with it, and the ECU has different calibration. Not sure it will accept a simple Memcal chip swap. Thoughg is it heapscheaper than buying new, I've heard of many people having niggling probs fro a long time after, and saying"I wouldn't do it, if I knew about the dramas"....

I would say just go for a CAPA or similar centrifugal type setup, hanging off the side of the engine. Very efficient, and quiet, and warranted

Friend bolted one onto a stock Gen 3 V8. From 235-365 KW, and from 510Nm - 750Nm. 11.8 sec 1/4 mile, no sweat. Bolt on and drive away for $5000.

"You get what you pay for" never changes.......

Yeah I think I may try and find a complete factory Supercharged motor.
Will keep an eye out at the wreckers and damaged car auctions.

Some last generation VR calais also sported the super 6

one of the biggest problems is that you need new heads, intake manifold etc. off the scharged motor. BIG BIG job, just commodores forum will tellyou all you need to know once you sort through the shit.

You sure, as far as i know it wasnt released till late in the VS lineup. Then only in the calais. THe VR was the last of the non-ecotec motors, and these motors did not have the SC option at all.

All I know is that I've seen a few super 6 VR's that aren't transplants.

I too would luv to power up my V6, I have looked into superchargers & the overall costs start to add up, by the time you have to change things around for accurate reliability it is big $$$$,it basicly worked out cheaper to buy a complete factory supercharged V6 wiring loom & computer 2nd hand, & then sell mine to recoop some coin$.. BUT !!!! if I was giong to that much trouble, I rekon Id be better off throwing in a GEN 111 for around the same coin,
but feering a marrital melt down, ill stik with wot Ive got (for now)

Exactly, V6 commy motors are a thing of the past. That said without forced induction a normal old V6 commy motor can be quite potent. I suggest you look up old issues of street commodores with project V6 vengeance.

200kW is achievable N/A with a few dollars.

Dont get me wrong my NA V6 goes pretty hard as is but I can always do with more  .
Plus there is HUGE extra wank factor of having a blower :D
But yeah I have decided a factory setup will be the go, will start sending Emails off to wreckers.
Cost will probably be out of my range at the moment though, I am in the process of building a nice big shed to do the work on the Lux in.

I put one of those toyota SC's on my series 1 v6. Dead easy to install made up some backets , etc the fan belts come in all different lengths. Left the clutch operation on it, Just turn it on when you want the power and noise. Didn't have to adjust anything tune up wise, still standard MAP sensor. Prety happy with performance of it. hardest bit was keeping the plumbing under the bonnet.

Bolting up the factory super 6 topend and charger is not hard at all, and nor is it expensive... I found a super 6 topend off a guy that was doing a turbo conversion, bolted it to my standard ecotec bottom end using Yella Terra MLS head gaskets to drop the compression a little. The standard ecotec loom was fine, just needed to drill and tap a hole for a coolant sensor into the back of the manifold, and extend the wiring in the loom for the temp guage. I used the ecotec ecu with a super6 memcal, and it worked fine. Easy peezy!
All up it cost around 2g for all the parts, including all little bits and pieces.
Don't forget that you also need pulleys including harmonic balancer.
Ended up taking about 3 days of work to get it all fitted and running without a prob, but mind you this included a day of f*$&ing around to get the harmonic balancer off, and another day of trouble shooting the auto as it only had 1st and 2nd gear. Turned out to be a couple of wires had pulled out of a tranny loom plug when they were moved to fit everything in.

Why did you need to tap in a coolent senser?
Dont the eco tecs have one in them? I know the series 1/2 VNs do as ive snaped em off a few times when lifting donks in.

The ecotecs have a coolant temp sensor for the dash gauge in the front of the lower intake manifold, in the thermostat housing. The super6 topend I used however was off a VT which don't run a seperate temp sensor for the dash, they get their signal from the PCM. so I just drilled and tapped one into the thermostat housing in the super6 manifold, which is at the back of the manifold, not the front, hence had to extend the wiring. Hope that makes sense :)
